FX Magician: Lower Thirds, Virtual Deck, Bot, WebSocket...

FX Magician: Lower Thirds, Virtual Deck, Bot, WebSocket... 0.14

Hello,
I have never tested on Linux.
FX Magician Overlay should be setup by itself.
If it doesn't show up, that means something went wrong.

It could be the browser.
I tested with FireFox, Chrome, Safari and Edge on PC and MacOS.
Please try with a recent Chrome if possible.

As I haven't tested OBS on Linux, it could also be a issue with OBS (Linux).

Hope this helps.

KK
Testing on Ubuntu 24.04LTS and Firefox, Chrome, OBS 31.0.1 Works perfect, and tested web interface from Win11 + Chrome, connection over LAN to Ubuntu, working perfectly! — Please let me know if you need help, this “plugin” is insane cool!

BRAVO! Well done, and truly useful! I am new to using OBS, but I have been creating videos for years. I have always went with a media encoder, and vlc. However, I am loving OBS, and this simple tool is one of the best I have saw. It is so simple, that it is hard to figure out. I have installed several different plugins, and they all turn out to be crap. Yet, this one did just what I needed, and worked flawlessly. I am not a fan of connecting via http, and being unsecure, but well done. Thanks for sharing.

Tested on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 24 and see that if Chrome is not installed, the connection works and fxmagician is added to the scene, bot not appearing on the screen, so you Chrome to be installed

Do you have a virtual deck for windows, as in, a tray of customizable buttons that pops up when triggered by a hotkey and I can select the function I want. Note that I dont mean a mobile deck

HELLO everyone, the last couple of weeks when I try to use the plugin I get a message that fxmagician.live domain has expired.
Is this a temporary problem or the plugin is not working anymore?

Thanks.
It looks like the Domain Name has expired. I hope it gets renewed and I'd be happy to contribute to it's renewal. This is a great plugin but can't function with an expired domain name. I hope the dev will address this.

Well, it will be a real pity if the plugin has been abandoned by it's creator as it worked fantastic so far.
I really hope that he is ok and may address the issue in the future.

i'm not sure if you realize it, but this is no longer working. the URL you provide for the web interface goes to a dead link, an advertisement or something....
The problem appeared since October 2025.
It looks like the creator has abandoned the plugin. :(

This is the last time the site has been archived, from what I can see, and since the project was not put in a git, it will be difficult to propose a solution.

Hi everyone,

FX Magician was an OBS overlay controller, and its website fxmagician.live is no longer online. I'm working on a community restoration from the Wayback Machine archive, so the original tools work again with OBS 33.

What's being rebuilt so far:

  • connection to OBS via obs-websocket 5.x, with the password kept out of URLs and logs;
  • a browser-source overlay for FX, privacy screen and messages;
  • a touch "Deck" for scenes, sources, stream, media and FX controls;
  • a plugin system for FX written in HTML/CSS/JS, sandboxed, with import and export.

Nothing is published yet and no licence has been chosen. Testing on OBS 33 is still in progress.

I'd like to know whether this interests you, and for what:

  1. Would you use it? Yes / no / maybe.
  2. Which features matter most: the FX, the Deck, the bots, or sound triggers?
  3. Do you use chat commands (Twitch, YouTube, Kick) to trigger effects? Through which tool?
  4. Would you write or share FX plugins?

Replies and criticism are welcome. I'll only share a download once the tests are done and the licence is decided.

Thanks!

1. Yes, lower thirds like this plugin are very neccesary.
2. The fx and the sounds.
3. Nop.
4. Yes.

I used this plugin to stream an awards ceremony, and it worked quite well for displaying the nominees and winners. The effects it offered were limited, but sufficient for my needs. I also used it to display the names of the presenters and winners when they appeared on screen.

I really miss this plugin, and I still haven't found anything similar that helps me easily use lower thirds.

FX Magician is an effects controller for OBS Studio. The original project is no longer available online. This video presents the restoration I made from a copy preserved on the Wayback Machine (archive.org): [link to add].

A Japanese beginner’s tutorial also presents FX Magician: 【2025年度最新】OBS配信と連携して画面にカッコ良く文字オーバーレイを出せる「FX Magician」が無料で使えるぞ!【OBS初心者向け使い方講座】. It shows the original project, not this restoration.

What was restored or added:

  • the effects engine (OBS overlay, Scene page), with the built-in effects: subtitles, lower thirds, quotes, Caption Horizon and confetti;
  • the effects list: play, stop per effect, “Stop all” (global reset), edit and delete;
  • a live preview in the effect editor, before saving;
  • a 3 × 3 grid tab to choose where effects appear, with draggable lines;
  • the effect duration (idle) now read in milliseconds, as the editor shows;
  • OBS actions in the control deck: blur, pixelate, GIF, media, sound and web media;
  • the control deck panels: sounds, bots, privacy veil, messages and log;
  • the local server now serves the shared folder, which fixes loading errors;
  • documentation in English, with French translations kept separately;
  • an example plugin template for writing new effects in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Project status:

  • Tested on OBS 33: the current version works as expected.
  • Still missing: a file picker for media, a placement mode on the Scene page, and plugin-based effects.
  • This is an unofficial version, not affiliated with the original authors.

Licences:

  • Files written for this restoration are released under the MIT licence.
  • The original code remains the property of its authors and is not redistributed here.
  • Third-party libraries keep their own licences (see THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md).

Thanks to the Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) for preserving this version.
