Small Stutters / Check Settings Correct

Hi Everybody,

Decided to re-post as i am still not sure i have everything correctly. Originally i thought it was just a bit-rate problem. My intention is to Record gameplay at 60fps, 4k with no quality loss.

Could someone kindly help me set this up?

i have tried with numerous tutorials but i still get small stutters and frame drops when playing back the videos. I do not see said stutters at all in the gameplay i was doing.

My Specs:
- INTEL CORE I9-13900KF
- 64GB
- RTX4080-16G-GAMING
– 2TB, CORSAIR,

don't ignore the all important pinned posts in this forum regarding posting your OBS Studio log when asking for help

Common reason for stutters is using a Recording framerate that is not an even multiple of your screen refresh rate. ie using 144MHz. common recommendation is to not exceed screen refresh rate of 120MHz, avoid screen running on different refresh rates (more of an OS issue), etc
Lots of threads in this forum on different systems and causes (AMD BIOS wouldn't apply to you, obviously)

Also, I recommend looking into (not my area of expertise, so can't comment, on use of Psycho-visual lookahead with your setup, and specific application(s) being recorded. Others have reported, if I'm remembering correctly, PSV and certain games not playing well with each other on certain GPUs.. vague memory... you'll need to verify if true on your own)

Your log looks good, you have OBS set-up OK & there's no rendering or encoding lag. Double check the 3D settings in your Nvidia Control panel & make changes if needed. I don't think you need to run OBS as Admin, I'm running 12900k/3090 & don't.

Monitor Technology - Fixed Refresh
Texture Filter Quality - Quality or Performance
V-sync - Fast
Triple Buffering - Enabled

My scope is to upload my videos to YouTube. To not lose any form of Image.
From my settings listed you would say that I don't lose quality?

My side fear is that I lose quality due to my OBS settings being off. I have a normal Samsung 4k, UHD monitor, nothing special, so the monitoring tech aspect is missing from my Nvidia Panel, as I believe you are referring to G-Sync and such.

I will apply the settings for Nvidia that you recommended.
Yes, I usually use VLC. I heard the encoder is solid.

Do you have any tips for my settings to be better in OBS?

Thanks once more for taking the time to assist me, I can't thank you enough!

Here's the settings that are currently being used. You can switch to Advanced & Duplicate them there. I added some adjustments you can try out.

21:13:24.543: Starting recording due to hotkey
21:13:24.569: [obs-nvenc: 'simple_video_recording'] settings:
21:13:24.569: codec: H264
21:13:24.569: rate_control: CQP
21:13:24.569: bitrate: 0
21:13:24.569: cqp: 23 > 18 (Lower for Higher Quality but Larger Files)
21:13:24.569: keyint: 250 > 2 Seconds
21:13:24.569: preset: p5
21:13:24.569: tuning: hq
21:13:24.569: multipass: qres
21:13:24.569: profile: high
21:13:24.569: width: 3840
21:13:24.569: height: 2160
21:13:24.569: b-frames: 2 > 0
21:13:24.569: lookahead: false

There's audio buffering in the log, you should keep an eye on this. If it continues to happen, your mobo/audio driver may need to be updated, especially if it's a fairly new board, like a Z790.
21:51:01.492: adding 1044 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 1044 milliseconds (source: Desktop Audio)
21:51:01.492:
21:51:01.514: Source Desktop Audio audio is lagging (over by 60702.88 ms) at max audio buffering. Restarting source audio.
21:58:26.200: Source Desktop Audio audio is lagging (over by 112784.13 ms) at max audio buffering. Restarting source audio.
22:00:16.912: Source Desktop Audio audio is lagging (over by 98587.04 ms) at max audio buffering. Restarting source audio.
22:00:55.202: Source Desktop Audio audio is lagging (over by 35476.79 ms) at max audio buffering. Restarting source audio.

Settings look good, except zero B Frames. B Frames are the lowest quality frame type, no need having them in your HQ recording.

For my Audio Input, I have Global Audio Devices disabled. I use Source Audio & capture the audio output from the 3090. (Loopback) Never have audio lag either.

21:23:57.424: [win-wasapi: 'Audio Output Capture'] update settings:
21:23:57.424: device id: {0.0.0.00000000}.{eefebedc-307c-47e4-bb41-c2507d571805}
21:23:57.424: use device timing: 1
21:23:57.437: WASAPI: Device 'AVM 50v (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)' [48000 Hz] initialized (source: Audio Output Capture)

I've been up all night, it's almost 6:00AM, going to get some rest. Good luck, I'll check back in like 6 hours or so.

One last thing, you're going to need to look into this. Evidently it's a Logitech Plugin you have installed. I don't know if it's compatible with OBS v30.x.x.
