obs-midi-mg 3.1.5

nhielost updated obs-midi-mg with a new update entry:

obs-midi-mg v3.1.5

obs-midi-mg v3.1.5 is now available.

This is a bugfix release.

Changes:

  • Change execution of Bindings to use faster and more efficient design using thread pooling
  • The Field editor message is now more clear to indicate what it actually does
  • Reference Fields will now default to Velocity (or equivalent) upon creation
  • Transition Bar actions can now ignore the Hold Time parameter to allow for persistent scene transitions (OBS forum)...

Unfortunately, even after updating the plugin, the hold time parameter continues to work.
I tried setting it to 10 and 5000, but I still get the same effect.
After the hold time expires, the PGM switches back.
I haven't updated OBS to 32.1 yet;
I'm still using 32.0.4.

At first I was unsure how to disable the hold time then I realized it's just a matter of disabling midi input to it (see images).

Okay, I disabled the "Hold Time" parameter.
The jump after n seconds is no longer there, but unfortunately the slide still doesn't work properly.
The first time I use the slider, the transition happens correctly, the PGM font switches to Pre-View.
If I repeat the operation, nothing happens.
Now, if I make the transition with the on-screen button, the source in Pre-View switches to PGM, but the one that was in PGM doesn't switch to Pre-View.
I have no idea if it's an OBS issue or a plugin issue.

I tested the plug-in with an RC version of OBS, the one where they modified the T-Bar's behavior to allow it to be controlled via a plug-in.

I tested it with a VB program and the OBSWebsocketDotNet library and was able to control the OBS T-Bar.

Normal behavior should be that when the T-Bar passes the upper limit, it should return to its initial position.

This doesn't happen in your plug-in; the T-Bar remains stuck at maximum and the transition isn't completed. This is also evident from the fact that the transition buttons in OBS remain disabled.

This is the link to the RC I used for testing

With this issue resolved, I finally think it's time for a nice external physical T-Bar.

Anyway, thanks for the support and for your work.

Is there any good documentation about how this works for a simple volume control bind? Before the last update I used an older version, more simple, everything was fine. But with the latest update it looks all different. I managed to get it to work at least to bind the controller (at least the plugin recognizes my midi controler) but no volume change at all on any of my sources. I just need like a 1 minute video to see what I'm doing wrong but nothing seems to work, no matter what buttons I push.

Hello

After I updated the rodecaster duo to the firmware 1.7.4 the obs-midi just stoped recognizing the software or the hardware itself, I tried everything, reinstalled the plugging, cleared cache, rode software's too, usb1 is connected to the pc, etc...

Nothing has worked, is there anyone that could help me? The plugging just wont recognize the software, even with the rodes aplication saying that MIDI is working perfectly.

It should work. I'm on the 1.7.4 RC2 beta and this plugin is still working for me. Make sure the little power button toggle next to Input Status for "MIDI function" is enabled. That gets automatically turned off for me sometimes.

Hi,

I don't yet have a MIDI device as I don't want to buy one until I know I can achieve what I need with this plugin.

Can I map the device controls by scene? So for a simplistic example a MIDI device fader will adjust the volume on one audio source in one Scene but a different Audio source in another scene?

I use the one physical microphone for music in one scene but to capture speech in another scene and they are setup differently as the speech requires a lot of processing like Noise control that blocks music.

cheers,

David

Hi David,

If you mean input levels, then MIDI Command Studio can control them before they reach OBS.

If you are using a controller with a single fader, you could switch between two MCS presets, with each preset controlling a different input. That would let you switch what the fader controls directly from the MIDI controller. With a multi fader device, it could be done in one preset.

It’s hard to say for certain without knowing the exact setup, so if you can give me a little more detail about how the two OBS scenes and audio inputs are configured, I should be able to tell you whether it will work and be effective.

Cheers,
Jamie

Just for clarity, Midi Command Studio is Windows only.

Hi Jamie,

I have four physical mics via a RodeCaster Pro box and ASIO. Three of them are used used in two sources each. One source with a lot of effect processing to pickup speech and make it audible and one source with less effect processing for music/singing. The Speech mics are used in one scene and the music mics in a different scene but I want to be able to use the same MIDI faders the same physical mics. I was also wanting to connect two different VLC Sources to the MIDI box as well and that presents the same issue.

I may have a solution for the microphones. I've been looking at switching to atkAudio for other reasons and I think I can use a combination one source for each physical Mic "Mic Actual" with no effects, and two of their Mixer sources "Mic Speech" and "Mic Music". "Mic Actual" will be an input source for both "Mic Speech" and "Mic Music", one with the speech effects and one with the music effects. I can then just control the "Mic Actual" which will then flow on to "Mic Speech" and "Mic Music".

This isn't solution though for connecting to multiple VLC sources.

Can switching between MCS presets be done automatically on change of scene?

cheers,
David

MCS can control the input volume before the audio reaches OBS, so it doesn't really matter which OBS scene you're using. It's effectively like having a gain control in front of OBS for any input.

Whatever input level you set with the MIDI fader will be the level being fed into OBS, and that same level will apply to any scene using that input. OBS can still have different processing, filters or source levels in each scene afterwards.
So if the same physical mic is being used for both your speech and music setups, MCS can keep controlling that mic input regardless of which scene is active.

I'm less certain what you mean by the two VLC sources. If you mean separate VLC sources inside OBS, MCS can't currently control those individual OBS source levels directly. If you mean separate VLC applications running in Windows, MCS can control VLC's application volume, but multiple VLC instances are controlled together rather than independently.

A more integrated way of controlling individual sources inside OBS is currently being worked on and will hopefully be added in a future update.

Sorry — I've just realised I mistakenly thought this was my MIDI Command Studio thread when I replied. Apologies for taking the discussion off-topic.
