I'd love to see an option for CamooZ to run in the system tray and actively override/restore any changes to the webcam settings.
Before I just had OBS run CamooZ whenever the application started to ensure my settings were applied.
Since switching to Nvidia Broadcast for its eye contact feature I've noticed my webcam settings get reset more often and, short of setting a recurring Windows task to call CamooZ every few minutes, I'm struggling with a good way to ensure my webcam has the proper exposure when joining a call.

To clarify my previous post, I'm running CamooZ 7.3.9 and have it configured to automatically load my preferred profile at startup and run in the system tray. I also tried enabling "Refresh cams on USB event" as well as "Tracking", but every time I open a new Teams meeting there's a brief delay before my camera turns on and it comes up with the wrong exposure settings. I'm not sure if CamooZ is already trying to apply my profile and it's a timing issue, but it isn't restoring my settings automatically.

Hi @Gaines ,

I use NVIDIA Maxine myself. Not the broadcast tool, but one of the sample programs that comes with the SDK. II make use of it with a window capture to get it into OBS.

Love the eye contact thing too. And yet: so wrong of nvdida's broadcast (or Teams for that matter, who knows...) if they screw around with cam settings.

So: your use case is understood. Simplest way for me to make your suggestion come true is to add a timer function to CamooZ - whatever profile has AUTOLOAD status is to reload every 200msec or so...

I will have to program it, and then play with that a little to see that performance is not impacted. Maybe do it only once per second or give user control over the interval altogether...

Traveling this weekend, so I'll get to it next week and post here once 7.4.0 is ready ;-)

Btw:

"Refresh cams on USB event" does what it says: if you have say 3 cameras and remove one from your PC, CamooZ will detect that and re-read all available cams.

"Tracking" affects how I react on movement of sliders: if ON, then changes occur as soon as the slider moves, if OFF then change occurs only when mouse is released. ( I made that for older PCs that have less CPU power)

Up to now CamooZ does no automatic overrides - but it will soon have that option.

Also: if you want to see exactly who screws with your cam: click the monitoring function in CamooZ, then start nvidia broadcast and see what happens...after start Teams...you will see the sliders in CamooZ change, as it reads current cam settings every 100msec.

Thanks for the idea

@Bart Nijs
Appreciated, thanks.
No dark mode since V6 where I went back to classic Windows layout.
Thinking about making it skinnable.

Any particular idea?

Hey @falti,

I've been trying the (Hide in tray after start and profile Auto Start), however it seems those features are not working for me, the only feature that seems to be working is Start with Windows. When I start my pc the Camooz does start but like previously mentioned it does not get sent to the tray, all the options get deselected on the options and hotkey settings. It is not Auto starting nor allowing me to start the profile from my streamdeck. On start it shows no profiles available, I have to manually select a different device than the one I am trying to change and then go back to it for the profile to appear.

Hi @Sleepy-Air

I have been made aware that something I never tested can be an issue: having only one profile. I will fix that in next release. Until then pls create a minimum of 2 profiles per cam and the autoload thing will work, as wel as hotkeys and streamdeck

Btw: in order for AUTOLOAD to work you need to do 2 things in addition:

1) Activate AUTOLOAD in general
2) Assign a certain profile to be autoloaded at CamooZ start time. You can choose one profile per cam

Setting it up:

Result should show:

I will look into "Hide in tray after start".

Can you please verify that the other things work now?

Hi @Canopus_Cat,
I have started playing with the Xbox 360 - its image quality is undescribable....so I'm wondering if it's worth the effort...

CamooZ shows the same behavior on my system. Not much luck fixing it, it's a timing matter with the driver...
What if you got a Logitech C920 instead?

They work/look allot better with the exposure reduced, the default setting is way over exposed. Plus with more setting tweaks can look quite decent.
No worries if they're too goofy to get working right ^^

falti updated CamooZ - Save & restore camera settings with a new update entry:

7.4.0 - Option to force a profile repeatedly & little fixes

V 7.4.0
  • New (experimental) option to force the currently selected profile repeatedly
  • Fixes handling "never exit, send to tray instead" when ending CamooZ via tray menu
  • Fixes window position issue: when CamooZ previously ran in a multi-monitor setup and when then re-started with only one monitor, CamooZ sometimes resulted in being active but outside the new smaller screen boundaries
  • CamooZ "Start with Windows" will now only create one auto-start item
...

Read the rest of this update entry...

@Gaines: you may want to play with 7.4.0 and see if your use case is satisfied with it

Is there any way you can unlock all 3 gimbals with the Insta360 Link? Depending on orientation, it seems to not respond to changes in pitch, roll, or tilt. For my use case, I'm trying to hang it from the ceiling to observe a large tabletop boardgame, and need to be able to modify all gimbal variables.

@Dextropy I'm not sure I understand. When I tested with an Insta360 Link all parameters PTZR responded. What do you mean with "Depending on orientation" ?

If you mount the camera to where it is mounted to view a table, or mounted upside one of the axis stops responding.

So I tried again in the upright orientation just to test, and it also doesn’t respond to the “roll” parameter. Was there a firmware update that broke it or something?

Good question,

I no longer have mine, so I cannot test. Here is what you could do to check if CamooZ makes a mistake:

Work with that DirectShow dialog as is opened by OBS (Configure Video) and play with the sliders there. If they work, then pls let me know, because in that case I might have a bug.

If ROLL does not do what it should with that dialog either, then it's probably a driver or firmware issue...

You can also start the old standard dialog from CamooZ with this button in the lower right.
