Need feedback on game capture - ancient thread alarm

Re: Need feedback on a new version of game capture - updated

Ramten you can type the number instead of using the drop down. Not sure which number is optimal in test7, I guess Jim will tell us soon :)

I noticed that test7 has delay and a timer to know how much we've been streaming, nice !

Jim, makes sense to add the profile name in the status window too? Just to be sure where we are streaming to :)

Re: Need feedback on a new version of game capture - updated

I'll write up a more comprehensive version of my opinion on OBS, but using the built in game capture this is what I found.

Comparing built in OBS to DXtory, objectively speaking OBS gives a huge boost to FPS. It's almost as if it has little to no impact on the actual fps.

Subjectively there appears to be 1-2 frames of intermittent input latency. I don't know how to measure this, but I can definitely feel it. Sometimes it's not present, other times it ads a sort of 'bluriness' to the picture in high action scenes for lack of a better way to describe it. It gives me the start of a mild headache as well.

So while OBS offers better FPS, it seems to add some sort of latency to the mix. It almost feels like a buffer is added when it's on, like triple buffering for vsync.

What is the 'Unlock higher FPS rates' option?
It allows you to enter a framerate higher than 60 into the FPS box.

Thanks Muf. I noticed there's no option to show the mousecursor in game capture (test7)..

Tried out the Test7 with Quake Live. Change of resolution (vid_restart) = crash and closed the game = crash. But the browser stayed at QL site. When went back to practice game after that, QL crashed with OBS closed, giving following error:

QuakeLive caused an Integer Divide by Zero (0xc0000094) in module
C:\Apuohjelmat\OBS Daily\plugins\GraphicsCapture\GraphicsCaptureHook.dll
at 0023:629b3b8b.

Re: Need feedback on a new version of game capture - updated

Well, that's a rather hilarious error. Guess I better check to see where I'm doing divisions.

Anyway, closing the app/game while streaming, as well as resolution changes in the game and sometimes alt-tabbing is still somewhat buggy. I'm working on trying to get them stabilized at the moment.

As stated in the original post, mouse currently doesn't capture but I'll get it in

Got this crash today when I tried to add a bitmap to an active stream.
EDIT: Ths only appears when I browse to My Pictures folder in My Documents. Maybe a thumbnail related error?

Re: Need feedback on a new version of game capture - updated

simondoto - will check it out, thank you very much for the report.

New version, test9 - I have been attempting to get rid of more of the alt-tab issues, as well as issues where it will fail to reacquire when lost, and restarting the game and such. Please let me know if this helps with the problem if any of you were experiencing those problems before.

Test9 - had the same lag issues as test3; that is, in-game it was fine but on the stream it paused every 2 seconds. I retried test7 afterwards to make sure it wasn't my internet (and it wasn't). Stream using test9

Also, I didn't have any alt-tab issues with either version.

Ah, hm, yea, that stream did not turn out so good. Seems like you're dropping tons of frames. So you say that test7 was better for your frame dropping issues?

That might have been why my stream was lagging greatly on the test 9, i made another topic on it, in problems and bugs! :) hope this gets fixed in 10, or just tell me if i should use 7!

Did you by any chance change the buffer size when upgrading to test9?
I had the same result as your link when i put 0 as buffer size

Been streaming for a couple of hours now and no frame drops with test9, however I did have frame drops on test7. Could be my bandwidth load making frames drop but worth mentioning.

I'm still having a problem with the game capture causing Starcraft II to crash. I can alt+tab out of Starcraft, but as soon as I tab back in, it crashes the game. This is using test 9 and happens every time.

Re: Need feedback on a new version of game capture - updated

After around 6-7 hours of streaming Assassin's Creed III with Test9 I had perfect ingame performance (there was no difference when I streamed and not regarding my fps ingame) video stream was nice too (when I viewed the video there were no frames dropping or at least not that I can see) there was a complain from one of my viewers regarding stuttering video on the stream but that could have been his connection since none of my other viewers complained. Overall great work this works a lot better than capturing desktop regarding performance, here is a video with Test9.
