I'm reposting this because I didn't get a single reply
also no, don't tell me to do something like cap my framerates or turn on vsync because literally no one in the potpvp community does that and their gameplay is still Smoove
Example of people that don't cap their fps and still get smooth gameplay - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaAPOfjvWhs&t=48s&ab_channel=sk8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhUeJl7Bg0c&t=40s&ab_channel=Tye3315 - His settings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc3y7spR13I&ab_channel=Tye3315
Notice how in his settings he doesn't cap his framerate and still gets extremely smooth gameplay, explain that?

Repost - So I'm trying to record Minecraft montages but whenever I have obs open even when I'm not recording or streaming I get extreme screen tearing. I've tried just about everything at this point, I've watched other Minecraft players obs settings videos, I've copied them completely still no luck and I'm about ready to give up. I doubt its an issue with my pc because my specs are pretty decent. I have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @2.90GHz, with 8 cores and 16GB of ram, and I get 1000+ fps in Minecraft consistently. I'm aware that running a game with the fps higher then the refresh rate (mine being 60hz) causes screen tearing but I know SO many other players that also have 60hz monitors that can record, and stream while having little to no screen tearing (they also use unlimited fps). I have no idea what mistakes I might have made or why its literally unplayable for me.

If you're trying to eliminate screen tearing, start with the basics in this order:
WINDOWS
1. Using Windows Update, update Windows 10 to 2004 or 20H2/09 (if available) per https://obsproject.com/blog/five-simple-tips-for-new-streamers
2. Enable "Game Mode" for maximum gaming performance. Game Mode can be enabled via the Windows 10 "Settings" app, under Gaming > Game Mode.
3. Run OBS as Admin. Right click on the shortcut, properties, advanced, check box, ok, apply, ok.
OBS
4. Set the Video Common FPS Value to 60.
GAMES
5. Cap your games at 60 FPS
OBS
6. Your log contains no recording session. Results of this log analysis are limited. Please post a link to a clean log file.
To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1. Restart OBS as Admin.
1) Start your recording for about 30 seconds. Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.
2) Stop your stream/recording.
3) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File. Send that link via this troubleshooting tool

After making all the above changes, please answer this question with a Yes or No: Did those changes eliminate screen tearing?

What I was trying to explain was that the people that play the game actively and make videos on the game do not cap their fps at all in game. In obs settings they usually use a Fractional FPS Value of either 60/1 120/1 240/1 480/1 and sometimes even 600/1. Here's an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UetVb9JX_cc&ab_channel=Topu he doesn't cap his fps in game and his gameplay is still smooth. I am going to say this once again no one who plays potpvp caps their fps unless their pc is low-end and a capped frame rate works better for them.

I did all of that there is still extremely noticeable screen tearing. I made four gifs so you could see what I'm talking about
https://gyazo.com/b4f8f59734e7a1815a3d0ac43bfc30da - This is where I capped my fps at 60 in game it was absolutely horrendous

You did not do all of that and probably made it worse by increasing the Common FPS Value from 120 to 240. You did not update Windows and did not set the Video Common FPS Value to 60. Also update OBS while you're at it.

I recommend asking the players on Potpvp for solutions as you are unwilling to apply the reasonable suggestions already offered.

Sorry i came a little bit late but I recommend using variable bitrate for the rate control method. It's what I use and my recordings and pretty good.

Hey! I've been getting the same problem and it's so weird, however I tested this on minecraft windows 10 edition and it works just fine. Example: https://youtu.be/L2aeKuFLmJE
Okay this may sound bit weird but if you open obs while minecraft is launched try minimizing obs before you go back to minecraft and tell me If this works.
This was suggested by xferry 2 years ago which said:
Idk if you've already fixed that, if so, just for people who don't. If you have MC open and you launch OBS, make sure to minimize the OBS before putting MC in fullscreen.

I had a problem with screen tearing on my capture card and found a fix for now, maybe this will help you, I tried v sync, capping frame rates and many other suggestions, I saw the option to stream on gaming pc but this has worked so far,
I set my base and output resolutions both to 1080p(I game and stream on 1080p)
and then in the output tab I set rescale output to 720p and today on those settings I had no screen tearing on my capture card. I'm still fairly new to streaming but maybe this can help you or others.
my set up is a 3700x/3060 gaming pc with evga xr1 lite to a ryzen 5600g stream pc with 5mb upload speeds.
