Question / Help OBS makes game looking choppy but FPS is fine

Hey, so recently i have been having this issue with obs (version 23.1.0). Whenever obs is open (doesn't even have to be recording) my game feels incredibly choppy however I still get high fps(I use game capture). I also use Nvenc new encoding. The problem only occurs when obs is open. And the recordings are buttery smooth too. It is only with my display. If you have any advice please help me as it impacts my gameplay. Some more info is below:

Pc specs:core i7 7700
Gtx 1060 3gb
24 gb of ddr4 ram
Windows 10 64 bit
Games the issue has occured on: CS:GO
Fortnite

OBS has been great for me. I really dont want to be forced to have to use Shadowplay again :) Thank you for your time in advance.

I just made a similar post and it sounds like we have the same problem. If you want to watch my post to see if anyone helps me out then you could try to diagnose your problem as well.

Did you recently build the computer you're currently using? I built mine a month ago so I thought that might be the problem. If I resolve my choppiness I'll let you know.

I built mine over a year ago. My issue started relatively recently like about two months ago. Thanks you so much for the post link! I will keep tabs on it. I hope this issue is resolved fast! And I dont think we are the only ones either!

You could also try disabling the preview and minimizing obs. I do that and I think it works sometimes. It is just annoying as we shouldn't have this issue.
