Hey guys,

I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I'm using "Nvidia's Background Removal" or "Virtual Screenscreen" to mask, then composite blur to blur my background with the 'effect mask' feature and its creating a halo around the mask.

Any idea's how to resolve this?

Thanks

Hi Soleous-

That is an artifact of how OBS composites sources. The blur algorithm has no way to know what source is "under" the source you're blurring, so it blurs in blank (0, 0, 0, 0 color) pixels, which shows up as a dark halo.

However, this is what the "Composite Background" option is for. If you provide the source that is behind your masked source in this field, it will use those color values to blur in, getting rid of the dark halo. (Some documentation on this is about 2/3 of the way down the plug-in page). Please let me know if you have any issues using it.

Hi there.

I'm currently working on an update, however even the older version should work fine with OBS 31. Can you please provide an OBS log file, and I can check to see what the issue might be?
I also tried installing it with OBS version 31. No success.
Then I tried to install it with OBS 30 and 29. The plugin wasn't shown to me there either.

I use a Macbook with an M2 chip.

I have attached the log file.
I'm probably doing something wrong, as no other plugins are displayed in OBS.

Hi Fabian-

Apologies for the delayed response. It looks like you've installed the x86_64 version of the plugin. Your mac requires either the universal install, or the arm64 install (both of which should be included with the zipped download files). Try using either the `obs-composite-blur-1.1.0-macos-arm64.pkg` or the `obs-composite-blur-1.1.0-macos-universal.pkg`, and let me know if that helps.

Here is the second new feature release of the Composite Blur plugin. Huge thanks to the many, many people who have downloaded and used the plugin. I never imagined this project would have so many users. This release fixes a few small bugs, and adds a few great new features. Read below for more details.

Why am I getting a severe virus threat from Windows Defender when I try to download this update??

Anyone else getting this?
Its an unfortunate side effect of windows defender, and that heuristic virus detection almost always flags an installer as potentially a threat. Typically these virus flags pop for random people's installs for the first several days after release, and then after enough people have installed that don't get the flag and there are no issues, it goes away. Even with a software signing certificate, this still seems to happen.

Thank you for letting me know. Any chance you could screen shot the alert you're seeing, and DM it to me? then I can submit that info to Microsoft as a false positive, and they usually clear it up in a day or two.

Also, if you are comfortable with a zip install, you can give that a try, as it only seems to be the installer itself that has these false positives. Or wait a few days (especially if you can get me that screen shot) and it should clear up.

Hi!

Thanks for the plugin! I'm trying to use it in the separate canvas supplied by Aitum Vertical (https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/aitum-vertical.1715/), but unfortunately that canvas doesn't seem to support the ability to copy/paste (reference) feature the main canvas supports -- an idea described by @OwnerOfThePlace in their review: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/composite-blur.1780#resource-review-4856 to where we can add the filters TO THE GROUP instead of in the game/video source itself.

My issue is the blur effect is applied to all instances of the Video Capture Device (Elgato 4K X) when what I'm trying to get is blurred bars at the top and bottom of this Aitum vertical canvas with a full height version of the source set INSIDE the blurred top and bottom bars -- to provide a "wider" view in the vertical feed by "shrinking" to total game-play height.

Any ideas how I might achieve what I'm going for? Or if there's a way to make the composite blur effect just apply to one / some instance(s) of the Video Capture Device?

Many thanks!

Due to how OBS works, filters are applied at the source level, so wherever you use that same source you will have the same filters applied. The easiest way to accomplish what you want is through the Source Clone plugin: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/source-clone.1632/ . Make clones of your un-filtered video capture device, and then apply custom filters to each of those clones. I will typically make a "raw sources" scene, and put all of my original video capture sources in that scene, then only use clone sources in the actual output scenes, which allows custom filters in each place they are used.

Thank you very much for the reply and tips!! Will give it a shot.

And thanks again for the plugin!!

Good day everybody,

I figure I will write here some information for others who have this problem what I was facing as well. That OBS Composite Blur DIDN'T show up under filters list at all.

I had to figure this out by myself because everybody is busy today's life time. So my thought was first WHY? 2. ok check where this file does get installed when you use the installer.

That was the key of the problem.

The installer file is installing just exactly THERE in this folder where you have it when you click install. It doesn't matter if you TELL then it should go into the folder from obs. IT doesn't do it.

So I moved the installer file to the folder of obs and then clicked install. THEN i let the installation file also close OBS and manually I started OBS again and checked if it is now correctly working.

YES. See screenshots attached. (YEAH I MADE IT WORKING BY MYSELF)

Have a great day and fun with your OBS and recordings.

Logan

Hello,

The plugin is making my actual gameplay or display capture appear very laggy including other sources and webcam. I’m on the current OBS. Is there any workaround this?

Composite blur does use the GPU to do rendering, though in most cases it shouldn't be enough overhead to cause lagging like you're seeing. If, however, you're already pushing your GPU to its limits, it may cause issues. Depending on what kind of blur you're looking for, the "Dual Kawase" blur is extremely light weight, and might give you enough headroom to not drop frames.
