(Before you continue keep in mind I know basically NOTHING tech wise)
Hello and thank you so much for taking time to look at my post. So I've been streaming/recording videos with my Elgato and I've been using the software it comes with, with like no complaints. But I've been trying to switch to obs cuz its way more customizable. Problem is I have no idea how to make my recordings and streams look as nice as they used to before. I've looked at videos and other forum threads but i always feel like it still not as pretty looking as the elgato software

TLDR: I would really appreciate any help making my streams AND recording look as good as they possibly can.

Intel Core i7 - 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti - 3TB HDD + Intel Optane Memory

110-120 download Mbs
10-12 Upload Mbs
Stream on twitch and youtube (not at the same time)

Thats all the spec knowledge i know but if you need more info let me know how to get it and ill get it for you.

Like i said i dont know tech like at all so if you guys need any other info just let me know PLEASE. Thank you for the help!

It's difficult to help, because nobody knows what exactly you mean with "...i always feel like it still not as pretty looking as the elgato software". What is "not as pretty" for you? If you record or stream with OBS, what is missing, what is the difference?

If you complain about quality, if you feel the video from OBS is blurry and of low visual quality, compare the following parameters in the elgato software and in OBS and set it the same in OBS as they are in elgato:
  • resolution
  • frame rate (fps)
  • bitrate
In OBS Settings->Video, set Base resolution to the resolution of your game or monitor. Set Output resolution to the value the Elgato software uses as output resolution for its stream. Here, you also set the fps. Common values are 30 or 60.
In OBS Settings->Output you set the bitrate for streaming. Twitch has bitrate recommendations: https://stream.twitch.tv/encoding/
See also the encoder: use Hardware (nvenc) to avoid high cpu usage from OBS. You can also use x264 as encoder, but this will use much cpu.
