The basic concept of the OBS Studio plug-in SRT-Link (Secure Reliable Controllable Link) is to turn OBS into a powerful video transmitter and receiver.
OBS Studio offers a wide variety of inputs. There is an excellent game capture feature (unfortunately there is a little compatibility issue in OBS 31, but I expect it will be fixed in time). There are effects, overlays, and compositing capabilities. They can be enhanced with plug-ins. And since it is open source, OBS itself can be improved.
What it doesn't have is the ability to send out multiple streams in a reliable manner and manage connections, which SRC-Link provides.
SRC-Link works with SRC-Link Control Panel Web service. (Signup required)
Essentially, this plugin is intended to allow one streamer (host) to receive video and audio from many other streamers (guests) over the SRT protocol, but in addition it aims to significantly reduce the setup work for hosts and guests by eliminating the need to manage numerous addresses, stream IDs and passphrases.
To achieve the above, we use orchestration with the SRC-Link Control Panel to control large number of connected OBS Studios.
Key features
- A host can receive multiple video/audio streams from guests in parallel. The guest to receive can be selected from among the members.
- Guests can connect to receiver and enter standby state. The standby state allows transmission to begin at any time, and the host's commands initiate video and audio transmission.
- There is no need to send connection information (address, stream ID, password, etc.) to guests. Guests do not need to configure them in OBS Studio.
- The host can view the guest's standby status and video screenshots (updated every 5 to 30 seconds) on the SRC-Link Control Panel.
- Since a guest in standby state is literally just waiting without transmitting video or audio, there can theoretically be far more streams (whether 10, 100, or 1,000) than the host can receive.
- However, there is a limit in the SRC-Link Control Panel plan.
- SRT is used as the transmission protocol for video and audio. Stream ID and passphrase are managed by the SRC-Link Control Panel.
- (Since 0.5.5) Operation Teams allows to share receiver among your organization staffs to operate live streaming program jointly.
- (Since 0.6.0) Stream Recording functionality records cleanfeed in guest's local disk.
- (Since 0.6.0) External Connections allows SRC-Link connects to external SRT servers such as vMix, SRT MiniServer, Nimble Streamer etc...
- (Since 0.7.0) WebSocket Portal for OBS provides an obs-websocket compatible server and allows remote control of OBS Studio over the Internet using obs-websocket clients. No open ports, tunneling or VPN is required.
