Bug Report Won't show stream thumbnail on Twitch

I remember for a while we had an odd issue where thumbnails wouldn't generate, but I'm not sure if the issue still exists, and I don't know what caused it in the first place ( admin and mod squads did a ton of testing and I don't think we ever found a common link )

Do you mean a thumbnail for the videos? Are they black or something for example? If you're capturing a fullscreen, you typically have to start the stream while alt-tabbed, so it will display black for the first few frames until you alt-tab back in. The thumbnail system may just choose one of the first few frames, and gets one of the black ones or something.

I've been noticing this recently too and we are getting some on the Twitch forums. It seems to have started around the time the Youtube issue was "fixed" so version 448a and later.

Example: http://i.imgur.com/Gqyl2.png (My test channel and another stream that I know is OBS)
Forum complains: http://support.twitch.tv/discussion/com ... ment_30550

As Fire said, this has been an on and off issue for some time but I can reproduce this issue using OBS 90% of the time.

I'm going to try out the new Alpha (0.449a) tonight and try with fix audio/video sync checked this time. I'll update here and let you know. I'll also try with desktop capture instead of game capture to see if it changes anything.

bGeorge, do you know how often Twitch attempts to capture a screen shot of the video?

Thanks

If memory serves it's one as soon as the cast starts, and then again on the hour, every hour.

The first thumnail will always work as I recall, it's the post-start thumbnails that can fail.

Well I'm using the latest alpha (.449a), didn't change anything really and it seems to be working fine for the moment.

449 does not fix the issue

Ah, unfortunately I don't know exactly what the issue is at the moment. I didn't actually put anything in 0.449a to try to fix this particular issue.

Strange, I have no problem. All thumbnails show fine. Streamed for 6 hours two days ago, sound was a second behind after a bit less than two hours, haven't done testing with the test version.

I've noticed now it's all over the place. Sometimes you get the default twitch icon when it takes a screen, other times it works.

Is this a Twitch problem? It seems more like this has something to do with their end then OBS. I saw Fire lurking around the forums, I'll have to redirect him to this thread.

This really tanks viewership and should be a high priority fix. :l

Well people have been saying that it doesn't happen with other applications, so I just don't know for sure at the moment. I really need to get some feedback from twitch or something to find out what specifically is causing the problem.

Could you try test4 in the test builds thread?

I'm using test4 and now I have a black thumbnail rather then a grey one which makes even less people join (they think you're streaming a black screen). xD

I'll try switching twitch servers and see what happens.

Yeah, updating to test4 from .448a turned my thumbnail black instead of grey now. Switching servers didn't fix the issue (I went from chicago to san-antonio).

I think I found the issue, I'll upload a version in a bit to try out

GIVE ME ALL THE DELICIOUS DETAILS

I'll test it out and throw it at some people to try as well.
