05/04/2017 - UPDATE4: We are actively engaged with Avast on trying to solve the webcam issue with the 18.0.2 update. This is not isolated to OBS, but several other programs (including ManyCam) are reporting the same issues. If you do not use Avast (or similar, such as AVG), you can safely manually update to 18.0.2 with the below link.

05/03/2017 - UPDATE3: The update has been pulled until AV vendors have a chance to respond to us. In the meantime, if you want to manually update the build is available here: https://github.com/jp9000/obs-studio/releases/tag/18.0.2

05/02/2017 - UPDATE2: A potential issue with some poorly coded antivirus programs has caused us to halt rolling out the update. Please stand by until we can find a solution to this issue.

05/02/2017 - UPDATE: A fix has been implemented and released in 18.0.2 that fixes the Game Capture for 32bit DirectX9 games, such as CS:GO and League of Legends. Please update as soon as you are able, the auto-updater should prompt you to update the next time OBS is launched.

If you are having performance issues after updating, it is not related to this bug, but rather something else. Please make a new thread with details, and as always, include a log.

What we know:
The Creator update for Windows 10 has been confirmed to cause an issues with the methods OBS uses to capture specific games (not all) with the Game Capture source. This is manifest by forcing the Game Capture source to fall back on memory capture, instead of shared texture capture. This is FAR less efficient, and can cause a significant performance loss in both OBS and your games.

The issue is being actively looked in to, and data is being collected. It appears that 32-bit DirectX 9 games are affected, including but not limited to:
  • Counter-strike: Global Offensive
  • League of Legends
  • Rocket League
  • The Witcher
  • Bioshock 1 and 2
If you are having general performance issues on the Creator update, but are NOT using Game Capture, make sure to be detailed on what issues you are having and see the below section on how to help.

What we do not know:
We do not currently have the full details on what causes this to happen. If you are experiencing this issue, and wish to help, see the below section and provide a log for us.

How can I fix it?
At this time there is not enough data to determine the cause, so there is no actual fix. However, there are a few things you can do to work around the issue.

If you play your game fullscreen, you can use Display Capture to capture your game instead. You can also play your game windowed or borderless windowed and use Window Capture.

We know this is not ideal, and will update this post as soon as a fix is made available.

What can I do to help?
Sit tight! We have all the logs and information we need at this point, but feel free to report any additional issues you may encounter.

I will do my best to keep this thread updated with any additional information or workarounds we are able to find. Please try to keep this thread on topic. I will be monitoring this thread and actively removing off-topic posts.

OBS sometimes tells me it has trouble recording even when it's recording a black screen. Most games run well but Skyrim SE and Skyrim LE give lag in game and even bigger lag in recording. My commentary also randomly messes up sometimes. I haven't been able to find a trigger for it, it just happens.
Starting up OBS also takes longer than it should especially since there's usually nothing else running, I have all drivers and the settings are very reasonable for the hardware I own. It's only a matter of a few seconds though and setting the settings unreasonally low makes it almost instantanious although still not completely instantanious as I would expect. Maybe I'm just expecting too much but I had a much less powerful PC in the past that could record a lot better and it wasn't running windows 10.

Your log does not show game capture, it shows display capture. Outside the issues we've identified with specific games on the Creator update, you shouldn't be using display capture for games.

Hello, I have exactly the same issue with CS:GO. After the Windows CU it's impossible to stream CS:GO, because the game has FPS drops and stuttering (while streaming). Before the Windows CU was really fine. I tried to reinstall the GPU drivers (with DDU), deactivate DVR / Game mode / Full screen optimization, but without results.

Hope this issue can be fixed soon, because I mainly stream CS:GO and this is a big problem for me.

Here's a log on Rocket League with CPU encoding.

Here's another with CSGO
https://gist.github.com/5a2bf94fb8fefad72b1a26a207220907

Rocket League has the biggest performance hit as far as I can tell. The classic OBS seems to be doing better with CSGO than with the studio version using full screen capture(Game capture) and window option using game capture.

EDIT: Also would like to note that with gamecapture preview or even hidden seems to effect the games overall performance. And even after closing OBS, the fps in game is actually hindered to the OBS game capture preview which is odd because OBS is closed with no background processes visible. It is only fixed for me if I restart the game. This happened with Rocket League and CSGO.

Both of those logs show CS:GO. Can you get one that shows Rocket League by following the steps in the first post?

Oops. Linked the wrong one.

Also don't know if this is a common problem but after alt tabbing, the obs preview flickers, which it didnt before on Win7 or before Creators update.

18 second footage of the screen flicker.

EDIT:
Trying the disable full screen optimization check on the rocketleague.exe and launching it did not help the issue for me.

EDIT2: Fixed video privacy issue.

Thanks, I'll see if I can confirm rocket league and get it added to the list.

The video is not viewable, might need to check permissions on it.

I'm having trouble capturing RaceRoom Racing Experience after the Creators Update:

https://gist.github.com/565af37efeeebc418ce375dd3f6e0011

Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it's not captured. I can't seem to find any pattern to that. It seems like it might have something to do with MSI Afterburner, which is currently only in beta for the Creators Update, as closing Afterburner seems to help, but then again if the capture works, it works even with the Afterburner.

Hello All,

I don't use OBS to stream games, but I am a very heavy user of it. I use it to stream and/or record with a variety of its features (overlays, multiple cameras, screen cap, browser source, the works). Since the Creators Update I'm ironically not able to create any longer just like you folks.

OBS is almost completely unresponsive. It shows browser source and graphic overlays, but I can't get any of my cameras to show up in it (had brief luck with 1 logitech 920 before it vanished too, Zoom Q4N is gone completely though). They'll show as a device I can select, but are black screens. No image. I also get a solid 10 second delay when trying to open a video source properties dialog and am constantly having to await a (Not Responding) message across the title bar.

Would my submission of the log files be useful in anyway as well or is there something alternate I could provide that would be of use?

Hey, guysand gals! Tried to stream Borderlands 2 - frames capped @50-60 in windowed, fullscreen and fullscreen-borderless modes.

Thanks for the report, definitely the same issue.

Yes, please always provide log files.

Hey, not too sure if my problem is the same but when I try to stream h1z1 at 60fps, OBS tells me that the stream is dropping to around 40-50 fps rather than staying at a constant 60fps. This makes the stream look very bad and unprofessional. I would love it if you could help me solve the problem as it only occurs when I try to play H1Z1. I have looked up many videos online and tried a bunch of different settings and none of them seem to be working. I have enabled Vsync in game as suggested by another member on these forums and it worked for a little while but no longer does as OBS still seems to drop frames. Here are both my computer specs and the OBS log that you have asked for:

Computer Specs:
CPU: Intel i7-4790 @ 3.6GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050Ti
RAM: 16GB DDR3

OBS Log:

Your issue does not appear related to the game capture issues here. You are simply overloading your GPU

Code:
19:39:51.250: Output 'adv_stream': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 752 (18.9%)

After I installed creators update to windows 10 pro ( original, not cracked shit) i noticed that when i start to stream on csgo i have masive fps drop. From 300 fps all the time now i can t reach above 100 fps and the game run verry bad.. not smooth at all.. :( And I decided to reinstall windows fresh from microsoft. And after fresh install with all new drivers and clean obs I have the same issue and I noticed that the problem is the game capture , when i use game capture on every game the fps frop ALOT! But if I use display capture it s waaayy better but not like the old game capture performance. :D I hope u understand my bad english an u can SOLVE that BIG problem. I can t stream/record properly.

Same issue for me with BioShock 1 and 2 since the latest Windows update. The second OBS game capture hooks either game the framerate tanks to ~25fps. CPU: Intel i7-4790k, GPU: nVidia GTX 1070

Let me know if you need any extra info. Disabling "Fullscreen Optimization" didn't make any difference for me but using Display Capture instead of Game Capture works for now.
