Question / Help Vlc media source shows black screen

1. I am using windows 10 on my laptop with 64 bit obs studio and 64 bit vlc player. When i add a vlc player it shows up as black - no video. I tried adding different videos to the playlist but nothing. I have specified the bounds correctly. I have also made sure that obs uses graphics card in proper mode as suggested by someone online. This is frustrating.

2. I have heard that vlc has some neat features like doing a playlist and also it also has the facility to pause the video when not being used and resumes from that point when we switch back to it. These features are not available in normal media player in obs studio i think... Is that true? or can we still do playlists and pause when not in use in media sources other than vlc?

Can someone please guide on both above issues?

1. You mean VLC Media Player? Try to use Window Capture as Source. It might work, I hope. In the source settings, against window it will appear: VLC Media Player. [vlc.exe]: VLC media player. If it does't then select it from the drop down list.
2. In the source settings, for capture method, select: windows graphic capture from the drop down list.
Hope the above will work and wish you best of luck.

@encee my intention is not to pause the recording - i want the video being played out to be paused so that when i bring it back it plays from where i took it out..

Also I did not meanvlc player - i meant the vlc video source. BTW there is not video even if i play a video on vlc player and bring that as a window into obs instead of using the vlc video source... so it does not work both ways for me...

Will the videos you have tried to play, play in any other player?

also it helps to post a log file

This same thing is happening with me. VLC video source just shows up as black if I try adding video files to it. And if I try to do a window capture of VLC instead, it still shows up as black in OBS, but I can see it playing in VLC fine.

Strange thing is i can see the VLC window frame in OBS with window capture, but just the video is black.
