Re-Select Device After Disconnect

I use a hub to connect all my devices (capture card, microphone, streamdeck), and I stream from a MacBook - so when I disconnect the hub and reconnect it, OBS never remembers my capture card, and I always have to refresh it...

Is there a way to make sure I can disconnect the hub, reconnect it and not have to do this every time?!

Bump...

I'll explain it maybe better this time. I have to reselect my device from the properties menu each time I connect the USB, and the same issue goes for using Veadotube, where I need to select the window I want it to capture. I started using Advanced Scene Switcher, and it has the option to select these things when a certain state is present, you can ask it to get current settings, which is a random string of numbers, but again after you unplug the UBS and plug it back in, that string also seems to change, so I can't even use this to automate it...

Send help!

the photos provided show the greyed out version of the capture card previously selected, I have to reset to default for it to refresh the list, to allow me to select it again - and within the list of Veaodtube, it auto selects something from the list, and doesn't ever remember I want veadotude selected.

I’m experiencing this too. When starting OBS the video device’s video doesn’t appear. Open the properties and uncheck “use preset” then checking it again will get it going. I haven’t tried automating this yet

I found a solution that works, and it might work for you.

I've been using the source 'video capture device' - I have an external capture card, so I thought that would be the one to use. I've changed to using 'capture card device', now it remembers the capture card, and no need to re-select it each time.

I hope this helps you

To add to the discussion, I have the same issue with the following configuration:
  • OBS Studio 31.0.4 on Windows 11
  • HDMI Capture Card, connected directly to computer USB-C i.e. no USB Hub, as a Video Capture Device Source type.
The HDMI Capture Card was recognized only after a lot of trial and error, and creating a new Scene and Source in a new Scene Collection.

Cheers. . .
