OBS reduces in-game fps. How to fix it?

I'm trying to play a game and record it at the same time. I have a laptop with an Intel I7 and a GTX 2060 so specs shouldn't be a problem. The problem comes when trying to record. When recording or even having OBS open without doing anything lags a lot the game (dropping in-game frames from 144 fps to 50 fps), this renders the game unplayable. I know the problem isn't GPU overload because when having the game and OBS open the GPU usage doesn't go over 60%. So what can the problem be and how can I fix it?

Play the game in small screen. Then select window capture instead of Game or Display Capture. Run obs as an administrator. Turn GameMode on.
