OBS Classic OBS-Classic: How to make high quality local recordings

Nothing changed that would need an update so far. Or am I missing something?
Even in the rewrite the options will probably still be the same :)

Well, in the rewrite, you'll be able to record in different formats besides h264, so it might be worthwhile to write something new. But for h264 video, this guide should suffice just fine.

From what I can tell, if you're using Quicksync, use the settings in the guide but set max bitrate to 100,000 and no crf value command (doesn't seem to work?) and you should get the same effect (great 1080p recordings, no performance hit!).

I've tested with 40,000 bitrate and the picture looked fine (GW2), but may need to be upped to the stated 100,000 for fast paced games like racing or shooters.

Edit: Might as well just set it to 100,000 bitrate, since it only uses what it needs.

Hi all.
I'm trying to record some gameplay videos to upload on youtube. If I try with the settings in the first post will I be ok? Do i need more editing after? I don't have programs like sony vegas, so I don't know how to proceed after I've recorded the video.

Youtube has a few recommended encoder settings which you can find here. Most of these are pretty standard but a few will require changes to your OBS encoding settings, which can be done under Settings > Advanced.

- You'll want to add the custom params bframes=2 and keyint=15 (for 30 FPS video; keyint should be set to half of your frame rate for Youtube uploads).

- If possible you'll want to avoid the ultrafast preset as it disables a few things that Youtube wants, like Open GOP and CABAC.

- Unless you plan to re-encode the files OBS generates prior to uploading them to Youtube you should stick to using the Quality dropdown under Settings > Encoding. Manually setting a lower crf value under Settings > Advanced can make for much larger video files which may be impractical to upload.

this yt recommended settings for sample rate are retarded. They use only 44,1 khz, maybe now something changed.

I'm having nightmares right now. I'm recording Minecraft and the quality is amazing but my recording skips! It keeps the audio going but my Picture just pauses and goes to the corresponding time for the audio and even after a bunch of time trying to fix the problem I've gotten nowhere.

Make a new thread in the Questions and Help forum, with a log file from at least five minutes of high action gameplay.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set the Bitrate to something higher like 3,000?
No. If you'd read the original post:

"Setting the buffer size to zero disables the VBV system, allowing x264 to hit any bitrate necessary to achieve the quality (CRF) specified."

Ah check; sorry and thanks. I seem to have lost the ability to read from beginning to end and instead only look at select things it seems. Cheers.
