New to OBS, rx5700 & 3900x, what kind of settings should I use? Video is stuttery?

Hi there!

I have a new build PC, nothing spectacular but quite capable for most consumer tasks, I have an rx5700 and Ryzen 9 3900x, I have tried several settings in OBS while trying to record War Thunder just as a test and the best outcome I got was where the initial recording, whilst I was in the gaming queue/lobby as it were, but as soon as the game got going proper it just seemed to get really not very good, stuttery, possible freezing a bit. I know that computers aren't a perfect science but I have reasonabe hardware and I see peeps on youtube with older systems getting results?

I have a 4K monitor, so I put that as the base canvas and1920x1080 for the scaled output...I used the new AMD encoder h265 to start with but then, with not so good results, I thought that it might be better to let my CPU do the encoding and the GPU play the game so I used x264, I think this is the time I got slightly better results but only while the game was quite, lobby, beginning the game....

I really don't get it, I mean yeh computers are complicated and have 'issues' but I think my PC can handle this, the stats overlay showed that there was headroom and nothing was getting too stressed, temps etc.

I wonder if anyone has OBS up and running with a similar build? I have the Aorus Elite B550 v2 mobo....if anyone has any idea if this can be a hardware issue or just 'stuff happens' then that would be cool, or a good starting place, I mean I'll go for 720p if it scales ok just to see if I get some results and work up but, hmmmm? I dunno???

Here's a few log files.....I do get the message that the encoder is overloaded and the stop recording button hangs, I think it seems to be rendering after the fact but as I say, I have some reasonable hardware???

1. Enable Game Mode. Game Mode can be enabled via the Windows 10 "Settings" app, under Gaming > Game Mode.
2. Enable V-sync/Cap your game at 60 FPS.

Some weirdness in the logs with the RX5700? I'm not entirely sure why it's showing up twice, see below.

Also the installed driver isn't for the RX5700. Driver 24.1.1 was released a couple of weeks ago & has worked great in every AMD system that I've helped with. Might be worthwhile to DDU the old driver, could be a conflict on the system already.

Hi there,

Thanks you for your help and reply, I will have a look at your recommendations, it is weird that I see so many videos of people using OBS and it's fine and eh, computers the great mystery....I'll let you know how I get on, not being an expert it is weird that the GPU has two references and they are different...you would think they would be the same or really should there be two references at all?

Anyway have a good week end and hopefully I'll get this sorted out...
