Question / Help Elgato HD60 audio and video skipping

Heh, good one. Hopefully not. We're busy with other cool stuff right now, but this is one of the first issues we're going to be looking at after said other cool stuff is done, which should be very, very soon.

In the mean time, if you guys figure anything else out, or post more logs, etc, that will all help.

Uhh. Why? Shouldn't this be like top priority? Shouldn't issues people are having with your product in general be top priority? I mean, this thread started almost a year ago without a fix. And we now have to wait longer because of some "cool stuff"? Meh

I have to agree. Mario Maker is one of the more popular games on Twitch and has been for a long time. This issue can really ruin a stream. I've watched streamers playing the game and the delay/lag when entering doors and pipes (which there are many of in Mario games) can be annoying.

Since this has been known since last September, and doesn't affect those with the oldest drivers, you'd think Elgato could come up with a quick fix. The oldest drivers work and anything newer doesn't. Figure out what's different and make it work in the newest updates. Seems fairly simple. I'd love to use the most current version of OBS and hate that I have to downgrade just so my games run properly. And just to be clear, Mario Maker isn't the only game with this issue. I noticed it in Smash Bros and Mario Kart as well.

It was posted earlier in this thread that it has to do with the FPS not being exactly 30 or 60, but rather 29.94 and 59.94 FPS. This causes the .06 frame lag. How can the engineers not correct this? I'm sure it's not exactly as simple as changing the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were it.

I really love my Elgato Game Capture HD and support Elgato as a company, but this is a little ridiculous. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they fix this very soon and continue making great stuff for us gamers.

So, almost a year, and still no update?

Been following this thread and also been encountering the same issue every time. For now I reverted back to my original Elgato but it slowly dying now so I'm really hoping something comes out soon

I am going through major issues with this lag on loading screens. Most notably on mario maker, but it also exists on what seems to be all of my wii u games (I've tried Splatoon, Bayonetta 2, and even the wii vc for Mario Galaxy).
I've attached my most recent log files although I'm unsure if that will help. Let's hope that Elgato gets to fixing this asap.
If there is any information which I can help provide on the problem, just ask and I'll help.

Edit: To provide more information on what I have tried: I started on windows 10 and had the problem. Recently I downgraded to windows 8.1 where the problem still persisted. It exists for me on both OBS and OBS studio, but not the (vastly insuperior) Elgato software. I have also tried in OBS studio setting fractional frame rates (29.97 and 59.94fps instead of 30 and 60fps) which has not proven to be any better for me. In addition to this, I have ensured the elgato is plugged into a usb 2.0 (i.e. not 3.0) port. There has been a few other things I've tried but none are coming to mind.

I also want to mention that as I am using an audio mixer, the audio is desyncing from the game too. Meaning my audio is maintaining a constant rate, while the elgato (so specifically my video) goes at variable rates. This results in the audio and video being in sync at the start of capture, and becoming out of sync over more and more load screens, although sometimes it catches back up close to where it should be, only to desync once again.

If you'd like to remedy the issue so you can stream without lag, simply downgrade to the oldest drivers (1.42.24). This works, guaranteed

I've sent some stuff to Elgato that they requested, but haven't heard back from them. I wish they'd keep us more informed about this issue that's been ongoing for far too long. Seems like it would be a simple enough fix, but I have no idea what's involved with that. All I know is that it worked at one time and after they made some changes, it hasn't worked since. Seems like they could just go back and figure out which changes were made and try adjusting it until the lag issue is resolved.

Thanks for the heads up. I did see that mentioned earlier in the thread and gave it a shot. Unfortunately if I am not mistaken, my game capture hd (not the HD60 but just the regular old one) is not supported by 1.42.24 (maybe there was a revision and it's too new?), as when I go to open the program it remains to tell me that no capture device is connected..

Am I doing something differently from you guys? Can I use the old drivers but newer software?

Thanks ahead of time.

I'm using the older model (the Game Capture HD, not the HD60) and 1.42.24 works great for me Did you make sure to uninstall the newer drivers? I do get the message occasionally about "No Device Found", but I simply unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. This usually works, but sometimes I have to repeat it again. I don't think this has anything to do with the drivers, though.

The drivers and the software are the same thing from what I can see. Basically, the version of the software will correlate to the version of the drivers.

Guys. I've got great news. On my reddit post about this issue:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ElgatoGaming/comments/4a6844/anybody_working_with_elgato_please_pass_this/

LTRoyalShrimp: Update: A fix is currently being QA tested and if it passes will come out in an update soon.

We did it. It's happening. Rejoice. Aaaand, I'm going to bed. Lol

That's so awesome! Thanks for the update OBZod! :)
Now this means that I don't have to resort to using Elgato's streaming software.

Sure thing!
I'm just really happy that I'll be able to stream with my HD60 from now on without any worries. This was my main issue, and now that it's going to be fixed, it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

I just bought an Elgato HD69 and I am having this problem bad. Everytime I stream on OBS the game audio is super choppy. Like a constant stutter. I have tried everything I could find to fix it; changing the buffers etc. Please let me know what I should do next.

Thanks

So I thought the latest driver fixed the game skipping issue in OBS and tried it but saw it still would skip in my PS4 while the PS3 worked fine. I almost posted on this before, but I seemed to find a fix for it if I restarted my computer (please note the same programs are running when it works as when it doesn't and no additional software is running or has been running between working sessions and non working sessions), opened the Game Capture Software messed with some of the settings, saving and setting them back and then closing before opening OBS. The fix only works some of the time, and even when it does, I shouldn't have to go through so much for this issue to still be occuring with the PS4. The patch notes seem to state you fixed the issue with the Wii U, but did you test this for the PS4 or was this only work on the Wii U because others in the thread previously stated it was a known issue for the PS4 as well and I feel this was never addressed with the driver update. I can only issue so many apologies for things I can't control to my viewers.

i have no problems with skipping anymore but there are some start problems. when i open obs the elgato is either black or shows one moment please for ever. my solution for now is to open the elgato software and make sure to get the input on screen. ater this i close it and open obs and in the most cases it works fine. i also read my problem often in this forum since the latest update.
