Question / Help Elgato HD60 audio and video skipping

Sorry for double post!

I called Elgato support and spoke with a very nice representative named Dustin.
(I believe he was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I'm not positive on that.)

He seemed to recall an issue like this coming up in the past, and having passed it on to the dev team, but he wasn't entirely certain.
Regardless, he seemed very interested in the problem and guaranteed that he would inform the developers of the issue.
I forwarded him this thread, as well as my log files, and explained in detail our findings thus far, making specific note of the baffling 1.42.24 driver fix.

He also mentioned that LtShrimp or whatever his name is IS NOT AN ELGATO REPRESENTATIVE, but is rather sponsored by them. As such, he is not in any sort of position to be acting on behalf of the company.

As far as he can tell, it's likely a compatibility issue between OBS/XStream and the game capture HD; likely some bug that arose between updates to both the OBS software and the Elgato drivers.

Here's hoping we can figure this out!

I switched back to the 1.42.24 driver for my elgato gaming hd and it worked, the skips are gone and video is smooth between all screens now. But now I have the old audio desync issue where the game audio is coming in ~1 second after the on screen gameplay

Example video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9vpPAps7Zs

Did anyone ever find a fix for this audio problem on the old driver without having to update the driver? All the solutions i found in old threads all lead to updating the driver to one that fixes the sync issue, but then the skipping problem returns

yeah but the thing is driver version 1.42.24 fixes it, but it doesn't work with the HD60... the driver simply doesn't support that device, so we're still stuck...

I understand that, but I'm on the HD not the hd60. Since someone earlier in the thread brought this up on how to fix the issue for HD users I thought I would report back on my resume and see if they (or anyone) knew of a fix for the old issue that comes back when you use the older driver. Thanks the the reply though

Guess the euro around is use the elgato software and screen region it, not ideal resource wise but it works

For those of you who are still having issues with the Elgato capture card and OBS producing stuttering video and audio during transition sequences (i.e. gameplay to cutscene and vise versa), the Elgato 3.0 driver now allows browser notifications--twitch notifications. While we wait for this issue to be fixed, you can go that route. Here's a video showing you how to set it up:

Good luck and good gaming!

I know the Elgato Software can do that, but I want to use OBS because it has way more features... and OBS runs completely fine on its own

the preview window in my Elgato software doesn't even run in 60fps, so that's not a fix...
My post was from my phone and meant to say work around, not euro around as that makes no sense (that or my phone is racist)

I know its not a fix but its better than skipping around the screen every 10 secs in mario maker.

to me this is not better at all...

I am very curious how this situation is gonna develop. Elgato says they're working on it, I really hope they do...

I've already called and spoken to customer service once (I mentioned it in a post up above) and I know some others have... Only solution I can see to speed this fix along is for anyone new viewing this thread to call them up yourself and ask they pass the message along to the developers.

I just bought an HD60 last month (on the 5th) and I've been having the same problem as everyone else in this thread. But after fiddling around with settings for over a month, it took me this long to figure out it was the Elgato and not a problem with OBS so now I'm past my return window. I mostly stream Mario Maker and the problem is so bad, the stream and recordings are pretty much unusable.

If the Elgato software gave you the ability to resize the game screen, I may consider using it instead of OBS until they get this problem fixed.

Hey, I'd like to address this.

I am, infact an employee of Elgato Gaming, speaking officially. There was a small mixup with our support staff, they did not recognize my username. Here is proof.

We are very aware of this issue, and are tracking it in our bug tracking system. All the info you guys post here I add. We're a small team, and currently very busy, as you may be able to tell, on the Game Capture software. We'll take a deep look into this issue very soon. Again, any and all findings and feedback help us diagnose the issue faster. :)

Thanks for the feedback, LtRoyalShrimp. I'm kind of new to this, so let me know what I can provide you with and I'd be happy to send it. Here's a video showing the problem occurring for me: https://youtu.be/AlG7wqEVCXU

Is there any chance that you will add the ability to resize the game capture window in the Elgato Game Capture HD software? For me, that's the main reason I haven't been using that software to stream or record videos.

Guys, I found the solution... and it was stupid simple... I thought it was a Windows 10 thing since I upgraded to Windows 10 and then this transition stuttering started happening. It is actually the Elgato Driver that you're using, btw I'm using the old Elgato HD. I ended up downloaded the latest version 2.11.42 and ran into the topical problem. I've since uninstalled it and went for the oldest version I could find 1.42.24 and it works perfectly.

Here's the link to all the old drivers, try find the latest one that doesn't have the issue:

OH MY GOD! This solved my problem! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for the reply on this issue!
I have been having the same issuer for months now.
I see it primary in Super Mario Maker, I will occasionally play another game it it does not skip as much. Not sure if it is how SMM is treating the fading to black. As you know it happens primary when the screen goes black. (In Between Pipes, Doors, Deaths ect...)
I am a SMM streamer full time so this is really crippling.
Thanks for looking into it.
I recently bought a new capture card because of this but I will do what I can to help.

Thanks
Aaron

The HD60 is my first capture card purchased, and I am very eager for this issue to be resolved. I had been blissfully ignorant of the problem up until I started playing Resident Evil 0. There are many transitional points in the game through opening doors and the like, and this precise problem had brought about a great deal of grief (which the game itself had brought enough of!). I have begun to train myself to look at my stream during transitional moments, and have found them in many of my older stream videos as well as current.

Luckily for me, it is only a brief video stutter with the audio playing without noticeable issue. It seems to kick in just before a transitional moment, and sometimes after a transitional moment has fully elapsed. I had mistaken the issue as an encoding thing, but just like everyone else in this thread, it is only something that happens in OBS regardless of any changes to the settings. I am left to conclude that the HD60 is not cooperating with OBS properly, and either the OBS program needs tending to or the HD60 capture card does for these two to work together properly.

As confirmed from others the issue does not exist when broadcasting through the Elgato Capture Software, and all transitional moments are recorded properly without fault when using the program. However, I have been using OBS for quite some time and would much prefer to remain with it. Below are two videos for evidence should they help. Both have a 100% replication rate using PS4 version of MKX, OBS and an Elgato HD60 on any system/console set-up.

https://youtu.be/6w-lF3ffIu0
This video shows the native Elgato Capture Software recording perform flawlessly using the Elgato HD60 capture card. No visual or audio abnormality detected.

https://youtu.be/q6Wbnm9wfKE
This video shows what happens when the same sequence is recorded using the same system, but with using OBS and the Elgato HD60 capture card. Note the points of freezing taking place as the first and second logos gradually fade into the background. There is then a third momentary freeze point as the game fully loads near its first interactive state, though it is a bit more difficult to detect (happens at about the 34 second to 35 second mark in the video's timeline). You will note that this freeze seems to take place at the tail end of a recent in-game transition, rather than during or before one as is traditionally reported. I have witnessed this unique effect taking place in other games as well, suggesting the issue is not confined only to during a transitional moment, but may also happen before and after such an in-game scene change.

I believe enough information has been posted by others that no OBS log or dxdiag is warranted for investigating this issue. This is so far the only OBS issue I have been unable to resolve, and signed onto the forums just to help with this specific issue. I hope this has been somehow helpful in finding a solution to this issue.

I'll be older than Gandalf when there is finally a fix lol...
Heh, good one. Hopefully not. We're busy with other cool stuff right now, but this is one of the first issues we're going to be looking at after said other cool stuff is done, which should be very, very soon.

In the mean time, if you guys figure anything else out, or post more logs, etc, that will all help.
