Question / Help Dropping a lot of frames

Thanks to everyone for the valuable info. You guys are mostly in EU and experience issues, so you can only imagine how bad it is for us here in South Africa :)

I was experiencing issues even at a low bitrate. I used LHR and AMS as a backup... :/ Should have tried a third server!!

Going to try again tomorrow night and see how things go
 
Hey guys,

the problem still exists. I'm from Germany, using FRA and got 10 mbit upstream. In the afternoon streaming with +3000 bitrate is just fine, at around 18pm it starts dropping frames like hell. I can reduce bitrate to around 650 kbit (but still 5-10% fps drop) to make it work better, but quality very bad then (and still small lags)...

Several speedtests say ~9 mbit upload, so please.. dont tell me it's my ISP or whatever.


I read the whole thread (and a lot others) because it's getting kind of frustrating. This has been a problem for such a long time now and it seems to be not getting fixed? :/

I just wanted to push the Thread and hope for a new statement by Pugget. Would really appreciate an update an these topic :) Maybe you can tell us what's the matter and what's going to happen the next days / weeks

I have the same problem here, I stream on twitch.tv, too.

I have this problem with the FPS drops since 2 weeks every day at 14:00 - 01:00 o'clock, too.

So now you can say, "it's your problem, not twitch ...." BUT I have test it on hashd.tv, there I can stream at this time with the same settings in OBS and no issues and no drops.

I stream with 2200 kbit's CBR on or off it's the same result.

On twitch.tv I used every time the server Frankfurt, after the problem comes every day I test the rest of the twitch servers and it comes no changes, only dropping frames :-(.

I hope twitch get the problem or I must switch to hashd.tv :-(. I miss my twitch channel already.

I streamed to hashd.tv yesterday in rush hours with bitrate 1300 and it lagged also. Certainly not like twitch.tv UNWATCHABLE lags, but unfortunatelly hashd not the ideal solution :(

Why twitch, just why?

I drop every single frame and my internet is fine. If I complain to OBS, obs says it's twitch, If I complain to twitch, twitch says it's my ISP, if I complain to my ISP, they tell me it's OBS.

-.- Maybe I'm just screwed and the challenge is over due to technical problems.
 
Tyler - I cannot say "it's twitch", and I do hope none of the mods said that, as we can't really be know why any frame dropping or disconnection is happening unless it's actually a bug in the program (and as far as our tests go so far, and as far as other people have reported, that doesn't appear to be the case, r1ch for example has been testing long duration streams under various conditions to various servers, and I myself have never had an issue when testing, so we're fairly skeptical of that being the case).

It could be happening due to any number of variables, user's connection, user's ISP, the various routing points to a server, as well as the server, so it's difficult for anyone to actually place blame beyond a reasonable doubt. Twitch is of course one of those variables, they have admittedly been gearing up for changing their network stuff lately, but we've been doing our own testing and haven't experienced any problems on our end with it.

Though unfortunately my connection is really good because I'm right next to phoenix, so it appears to be difficult for me to really have a bad connection/routing. I can't seem to get a bad connection if I try.
 
Same problem here in Finland. Dropping frames like grazy after 18.00 (gmt+2). I can always stream at 720p at 3800 bitrate but after 18.00 my frames drop dramatically and I have to lower my bitrate to 500 if I want to continue streaming. :/ And sometimes thats not enough. I have tried multible servers but it is same thing every time...

My ISP is Sonera and I dont have any traffic management.

BTW this happens with Xsplit also after 18.00 or so I dont think its not obs causing the problem.
 
I get the same dropped frames but Iam not in the EU, I am East coast USA. I've already tried streaming to different twitch servers but they always drop frames or just randomly disconnect.
 
I'm also having this, with both OBS and FFSplit. I tried both at 500 bitrate but also at 3k. less framed dropped but still 20%+
I was finally having some decent amount of viewers and at 17:55 or so the chat started complaining.

should be enough for atleast 3k.
I have this issue for 3 days now and I hope this issue will be resolved soon.
 
Are you streaming to the Twitch Amsterdam server? The London servers went down over the weekend and are redirecting all their traffic to Amsterdam, so that server is overloaded right now. Try a different server, such as Frankfurt.

I was actually switching between London and Amsterdam :/. It's fixed though :D
Is there a certain page where i can find such information? Might come in handy later.

I don't know about "best". But unfortunately "only"

They DID start to take things a bit more seriously on that account yesterday, it seems. Progress?
 
I live in Colorado, and I have this same problem, I have Comcast Internet, there best plan I get 250 down and 10 up, I streamed the other day at 3500 mbps with no problems, and then tried to stream again later that day and was dropping frames like crazy, ran a speedtest, it was the same as usual, I tried turning down the bitrate, didn't help, tried restarting router, didn't help. Couldn't find anybody in thread talking about United States having issues, so just need some help please.
