What is your record for the longest running obs stream without crashing and what revision was it

I have seen many comments in my searches that say that obs is not stable enough for long term streaming without bugs or crashing. I realize that dealing with the base obs without plugins is only fair. Plugins can cause unstable operation. Since in the archives, you can get and run old versions, it would make sense to use the one with the most stable operation. That is , if it has all the features you want.

The work that the obs core team does is amazing and i think they should get the metal of honor for all the work they do.

Generally, each new major rev changes (27-28-29-30 etc) , adds features and bugs. Sometimes fixing bugs, generates bugs.

Also, stability is also dependent on the range of sources you use. if you use the vlc source only, you might have fewer problems then using the browsers. I know myself that when i have a stable obs for my stream, i stick with it.

I think that users might find this information helpful. So the questions are.

1. How long have you run a long term obs stream without crashing?
2. What rev was it
3. What standard sources were you using .
4. What plugins were you using that did not give you any trouble.
5. Did you do anything to make it stable

Thanks

This is not much help, but I thought I would chime in...
I am brand new to this product and forum. My experience is Zero.

We will be using OBS to provide a better live stream / Zoom experience for our Toastmasters meetings.

However, with 34 years in the IT consulting world, I can say that there is no perfect software.

The closest I have seen was OS/2 Warp 3.0

So much for getting better with time.

Thanks for the reply. I thought this would be valuable information, because obs is constantly being rev'ed. This means that there is a constant supply of new bugs even as they fix old old ones. Sometimes there is one rev with the least bugs and might work for a use like 24/7, better than "THE NEWEST REV". To me, it makes sense to stay on a rev that works for you if you don't need a new feature or a bug that's bugging you.

I would stay away from any plugin, keep the system as vanilla was possible. Advanced scene switcher can be a good plugin to have and seems well supported.

3.5 years & running 24/7 on the current rig. I have a total of 6 OBS crash logs. All of them were the result of testing different/questionable settings while using the Custom output. I can run/stream/record non-stop with OBS & never crashes. I only use the Multi-RTMP out plugin. Minimal sources, simple set-up. I get rid of what's not being used.

While I don’t use OBS myself, many streamers report running stable streams over 30 days using versions like OBS 27.2.4 or 28.1.2 without crashes.

You certainly beat me, my best was 100 days using 27.2.4. Haven't much luck with rev 30. am getting memory leaks. So may I ask, what rev you are using?.

I agree , so far, my best effort was using 27.2.4. I'm running my app using the v4-v5 websocket compatible tool talking to obs30. But keep running into trouble. Running a 24/7 tv station, stresses the heck out of obs.

Anyway, what have you been streaming for the last 3.5 years?

Longest I’ve managed was 38 days on OBS 27.2.4 running on a lean Win 10 build with most background services killed. No plugins besides NDI, and I had memory trim scripts running every 4 hours. Oddly enough, I was on a trip through BC and streamed daily from a coworking loft above one of the Local Businesses in Hope, BC — not even joking. Solid fibre connection and clean power probably helped more than I realized. Ever since, I’m convinced location and network stability play a bigger role than we credit.
Most users still prefer OBS 27.2.4 or 28.1.2 for long-term stability, as version 30 has known memory leak issues, especially with browser and media sources.

i have had luck with rev 27, but was hoping for a newer version. I can run my app on both 27 and higher using v4 websockit for 27 and the v4comp[at plugin for 28+. thought in the future i may want to run a plugin that isn't supported on 27. But yes, have no extra plugins, run lean.
