Question / Help Using recommended settings in "High Quality Local Recording" guide...

Thanks for checking those. Sadly, still inconclusive what the fix would be.

I mean, in any case that we can't figure this out, what would a good backup to getting a better CPU be? I'd like to be able to record console games at more than 2000-4000 bit rate (just sitting at the menu of Need for Speed: Rivals and bit rates of 4000 and higher were causing CPU usage to go to 100% and non-stop high encoding error), so what are a couple options you would recommend?

Again, I have a half-sized motherboard, I believe MSI A78M-E35 to be exact.

So the big question is are you going to be streaming or local recording?

x264 is the best for streaming because quality per bitrate is a lot better. With local recording, that isn't a factor because you can increase the bitrate.

That being said, if you want x264, you need to change your motherboard and CPU out for at least a top of the line i5 or better yet an i7 (most common is the 4790k or the new 6600K), both those CPUs are different socket types so you really need to shop around.

Second (my recommendation if local recording and some minor streaming) would be up upgrade your GPU. the best value right now is the 290 or even the 290x but a 280x would work as well. If you want a current gen AMD would go with a 380. all the GPUs listed above will do VCE.

If you are leaning towards nVidia anything in the 700/900 series should have NVENC as well

It's going to be MOSTLY local recording for now, minor-normal streaming.

What I'm looking to do at the moment is be able to record console games, 1080p 30FPS, and at times have skype open to be recorded (for co-op projects). Computer games haven't been a problem so far, but I'm sure if I tried to get into the more intensive ones they would.

I guess my biggest problem is that I'm short on cash right now (freaking car tire popped lol) and don't know a thing about building PC's. My cousin, who picked out these parts and helped me build it, is in Florida, so all of this trying to find better parts and then having to try and swap them out is just a tad bit terrifying to me lol.

Anyways, for the moment I'm looking for cheapest-to-decently priced part(s) that would best improve to what I'm aiming to record right now. Streaming is not a huge priority, since as of now I only stream 1-3 times a week and youtube is a daily thing, and I assume if I ever get big enough to where streaming becomes a more regular thing I'll hopefully have enough to build a new PC or at least just make all the necessary upgrades, but I don't see myself getting big enough to do that for awhile anyways.

Here's something curious: Take a look at this log file
https://gist.github.com/cc2501dc76cc87c74367

This was taken in OBS VCE. I created a new profile, to try and see if maybe a settings was causing something. Here's what I did: I created a new profile, and the ONLY thing I did was go into AMD VCE Encoder and hit "Quality", and I was able to preview stream (only went for 5 seconds before I stopped it) without crashing. Could it possibly be a setting that's making OBS crash?

Or better yet, it seems like that switching from x264 encoder to AMD VCE encoder is what's causing the crash. Forgot that I needed to switch that for preview, and after switching that is crashed again.

It it is something with the GPU (even if everything else is working) I would first attempt to get it covered under warranty. If that isn't an option then I dont know what to tell you. Unless there is something that you are doing wrong during the install, then all falls back to the GPU being the issue.

One more thought, have you considered updating your OS? Its kind of a toss up because there are some things that 10 has issues with, but stable enough for most.

Eh, I don't really like 8, and haven't seen an incredible amount of 10, but from what I saw from 10 I think I'd prefer to stick to 7. I could try un-installing and reinstalling OBS VCE I guess, and see if that does anything?

Nope, reinstall did nothing. I already had the first of the three steps done (install the 2013 package thing), so I did step two and three, 7-zipped and then opened the application, proceeded to check that all the settings were set like asked, and still a crash. :/

The "archived binaries", so I need to look at that and see anything?

I wouldn't but that is why they are there.

Yes, since you've uninstalled your drivers with DDU and reinstalled with the same result.

Alright. I guess I'll hope there was a warranty on it. I bought it February of this year, so if there was a warranty I should still be covered (likely, since 1 year warranties are common).

Agreed. I really hope this is it. if not I have failed you ;)

Lol I mean, it is quite an odd thing. I went and tried to find it and I couldn't find anybody who had similar problems. It's just so odd that I can't even open Multiplat OBS without it crashing, and that preview stream crashes OBS VCE and nobody else (that I've seen) has the problem.

Maybe I'll go to the guide and go through some of the 60 pages of replies and see if anything is there in the meantime.

skip the first 50 pages since most of that is MFT and older builds. did you try the 32bit version of OBS?

I have not. Think it's worth trying out? If I do try 32 bit, do I need to get x86 from that one download?

Yeah, 32 bit was no different.
If it helps any, I got two times or so, when the new profile was created and just changing the "Quality" setting in AMD VCE and switching the encoder to AMD VCE, I was able to get previews that didn't crash and were stuck hanging, the preview was stuck at one second.

Unsure if this will help at all, but I believe this (may) be a crashdump of a crash I just had.

The date doesn't say today, but I had the crash, it reset my computer, and I had to system restore, blah blah blah. I don't recall OBS crashing any of those days so I'm unsure if this is related to that at all, or if there's crashes those days I don't remember or not.

Also, my profiles are still here, but my scenes are gone. :/ Not sure what happened there.

That fault address is with the elgato software along with the Microsoft redistributable. Its been advised in the past to uninstall completely the elgato software, reboot, then reinstall.
