Question / Help Using recommended settings in "High Quality Local Recording" guide...

Okay never mind, got that fixed. I tried to go into my Device Manager and "roll back" drivers, but that didn't seem to work as I couldn't get my second monitor working, so I just system restored to November 2nd and now everything is fine, the game records fine again, all that.

I just wish somebody knew what was wrong trying to use Multiplay / VCE so I could record co-op playthroughs better. :/

I do appreciate all the advice / help Dping!
Glad to help but I'm really wondering if thats your hardware. we've ruled out it being drivers, but with the new drivers you had issues.

Other than during the install of 15.10, did you uncheck gaming evolved from being installed? this is commonly missed but it will affect recording.

I didn't know it would affect gaming, and so more likely than not I just left it unchecked, and just installed whatever the defaults were. I guess, knowing that a system restore works, I could mess with it again and see if it would work after re-installing and not installing that. Might be worth messing around with. :)

But yeah, it seems like it's quite a weird problem. My computer isn't that old, it's only 6 or 7 months old... I dunno, lol. I might just be stuck upgrading from my AMD to something that can handle recording.

it can handle recording, but something is wrong

Well the biggest problem is that it doesn't handle 1080 30fps well trying to get rid of motion blur for maximum settings. It looks good, but I had bad motion blur, and then the problem of trying to record and use skype just brings up max CPU usage for some reason.

Are you saying that it IS recording now? because last you said, it was crashing every time. Now you are saying it doesn't handle 1080@30 well? so have you tried less and it works? I dont know if you are giving me the details properly here.

Apologies, I mean that my settings I'm currently recording with (not the ones we've been messing with, OBS VCE still crashes with those particular settings) has motion blur when I record games, and that when I try to do a console game + skype on recording my CPU goes up to maximum thus causing high encoding errors.

It's like I'd said, in OBS VCE, my "Recording" (which is my current settings, the ones I use to make videos now) profile works properly on OBS and OBS VCE, while my OBS VCE profile (which has the settings we've been messing with) works on regular OBS, but not OBS VCE.

Which was my first question really, was how to improve that, and then the OBS VCE thing was mentioned, but that crashes, and so I'm just stuck recording how I am now, on the OBS I was using before (OBS without VCE support).

I guess here's something that MIGHT be an issue, I have both OBS and OBS VCE installed...? Could that potentially cause a crash? Normal OBS works fine with my current (old, not the ones we messed up) settings, even with VCE installed, but could normal OBS be messing with VCE?

Where did you install OBS VCE? also, did you ensure that you installed all the prerequisites?

as for x264 you should try ultrafast x264 preset and maybe use a custom buffer of 0. dont do any crf commands though, your CPU isn't fast enough to keep up with that.

Also, it would really help to know exact model of your GPU. there is one or two lower end R9 200 series GPUs that do not do VCE...

I clicked on your link and installed it from there. The only thing I didn't do that could be a problem I guess it I didn't install x84. I said recommended x84 and x64, if that only x64 would be okay. Should I go back and try installing x84?

As far as the "exact" model of my GPU, the only thing I could tell you is AMD Sapphire Radeon R7 200 Series, not sur eif that's specific enough or not...

You mean x86. that is for the 32bit version of OBS. if you are running 64bit, all you need is x64 installers.

There is a chance if its a R7 240 or R7 250, Those do not have VCE support,

Bump, in case the specific GPU makes any difference.
I always get alerted from posts, no need to bump. your GPU is fine and has VCE. I do not know what the issue is and probably wont at least until you have a logfile with the AMD VCE build with AMF enabled. I'm not even sure I need a complete logfile

The only problem is, it doesn't create a logfile when it crashes does it? Whether it bluescreens, drivers stop working / recover, or OBS freezes and needs to be force-quit, no log file is made is it?

Maybe this log file can help? I haven't opened OBS today and it's a file from trying to test if I get a logfile, only one of today so it should be it... (Display drivers stopped working on this one)
