Question / Help Twitch Streaming, Quality and Wireless Connection

I'll try to make this as painless as possible.

This weekend I decided I wanted to try streaming on Twitch since I play so much in the evening.

I downloaded OBS, watched a TON of set up options, used OBS's estimator etc etc...

But no matter what I do, my quality seems sub par and doesn't run nearly as smooth as most streams I see on Twitch.

My computer isn't exactly 2014 but its not bad and runs all games at pretty much 'Super High Quality' If needed.

Specs (important stuff):

AMD Phenom ii Quad
8 Megs Cosair Ram
2 AMD Radeon HD 5700 1gigs (crossfired)

Download: 50mbs (high sometimes) Upload: 13mbs Avg (Has hit 20 mbs)

Monitor: 1680 x 1050 (will be updating soon to better one)

The only thing I have that i think MIGHT causes issue is i'm not 'hardwired' into the internet. I use wireless. So yes those Net specs are from the wireless (though still really good from what I've heard and read).

Because of my monitor I do get those black bars, but I can never get good quality with good stream. I don't need 1080.

Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Wireless is a mess for streaming because of its half-duplex nature and the inability to detect collisions. If there's any other wifi device around, it'll interfere with your outgoing stream, which is a bad thing when you want a constant stream of data to go from your computer to Twitch. Some info: http://www.networkcomputing.com/wireless-for-beginners-part-2-avoiding-collisions/d/d-id/1233955 .

If you must use Wifi for streaming, you're best served by turning off every other device that might also use Wifi, because even whatever keepalive packets they might send when doing nothing can mess up your stream.

The best option is to buy a long enough cable to go from your computer to the nearest wired port. A $100 foot cable, for example, isn't really that costly. String it before you stream, pick it back up when you're done, if you can't leave it in place.
