Question / Help Tired of HD PVR 2, need new solution

Hey guys, I've been doing some research for about a week now on how to replace my HD PVR 2 (generally just fed up with hauppaugue in general) and looking for a capture device that is natively supported through OBS. Problem is the majority of the capture cards I have been seeing seem to be mixed if they work or not, plus I can't find anything as to if they're supported fully by OBS.

I'd prefer PCIe and budget of $100, pretty flexible though. I need it to be able to do mostly old console streaming such as SNES and n64 games. Anything else will be PC and I can use OBS with dxtory for that.

My setup is going to be SNES -> composite cables with splitters to my old TV (love playing old games on my really old Sony) and capture device. So it is relatively simple and my HD PVR irritates me, and is more than I need.

Computer specs should be fine, but here are the most relevant specs.
Windows 8.1
AMD 8350
Radeon 7950
8gb ram

I will have native HD PVR support (hopefully both HD PVR 1 and 2 and roxio devices) in the future, but it keeps getting delayed because I am doing it in the rewrite.

The recommended devices are generally any affordable internal device, or USB 3.0 devices. USB 3.0 are the best, but they're a bit more costly than internal cards. Note that blackmagic devices are difficult to set up because they don't support internal scaling, so I generally rate them as "acceptable". USB 2.0 devices are not recommended simply because USB 2.0 does not have sufficient bandwidth and cause extra delay, and also very few of the USB 2.0 devices available are supported by OBS right now.

Native HD PVR support would be great, however I am really looking for something that is a bit more different, and internal to be honest. I really am trying to shy away from Hauppauge as a company as I've really had nothing but trouble from them.

I'm considering this card here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815100049
It will do all of my needs (it appears) and still be able to record 720p if I want it to. Does anyone have any experience with this specific card and know if it will be okay for older consoles such as the SNES and N64?

Older consoles use different capture inputs, such as component. You'll need a device that can capture those different input types, rather than a capture device that can only capture HDMI.

That capture card you linked does come with a breakout cable for component/composite/S-Video, so it will indeed work for old consoles as well as new. I have the European version of this card (three of them, in fact), and it's a really nice one.

There's only one actual HDMI input on the card, the breakout cable connector is just identical to HDMI.

I did a bit of research on the specific card, and it seems like it does not support 240p. This means it will not work with the SNES without having to be passed through something like a DVD player or old TV, correct?

I'm not quite sure where you read that. Are you sure it wasn't talking about 240p over component? If it was about component, that's true, but then again most capture cards (and TV sets for that matter) don't support 240p over component. If you need that, then you have to go with the Startech PEXHDCAP, or a Micomsoft card.

NES/SNES/N64/PS1/etc. work fine with the C027.

Actually, I think it was component, as they were talking about a PS2 playing a PS1 game. So looks like this card is the perfect option for me.
