Question / Help Stream disconnects at exactly 30 minutes every single time

The possibilities for this are:

1) You hit a hotkey and stopped the stream. Check your hotkey configuration.
2) Output timer. You inadvertently set an output timer. Check Tools > Output Timer
3) Your ISP is attempting to control your traffic usage by resetting your connection at regular intervals. Ask them to stop.
4) Your router is configured to renew its DHCP leases on a regular basis and this is interrupting your stream. Increase the interval at which this happens in your router's configuration interface.
5) Your ISP is experiencing a technical problem on a regular basis. Address this complaint to them.
6) Your streaming platform is disconnecting you for some reason.

Outside of hotkeys and the output timer, nearly all the possible causes for this are downstream of OBS.

This is my current setting for the timer in the picture. I don't have any hotkey configuration. I am testing other's restreaming services (https://restream.io/) and I noticed that the connection between OBS Studio and Restream is fine because even though Facebook drops, OBS and restream.io keep uploading perfect, but Facebook crosspost closed. I am frustrated with this.

That means Facebook is performing the disconnection.

Yes I have the exact same issue. I have tried everything but it just disconnects after around half an hour after. My internet speeds are good and there is no fluxuation in signal strength while I am streaming. I have tried all the advice including setting a static IP. I can stream fine to Twitch an other platforms. Tested for well over an hour with no problems every time. Tried with multiple accounts on Facebook and pages and always the same issue. I have come the conclusion that is is a Facebook issue. Maybe a Facebook communicating with OBS issue?

Anybody have any advice how this could possibly be fixed from Facebooks side? It might be an issue where OBS or Facebook will have to change coding for this to work again?

This is not an issue of coding in OBS. It is either an intentional or unintentional result of Facebook's streaming platform. If you can stream to other platforms without this limit, then your computer, your local network, your copy of OBS, and your ISP are all functioning properly. If it happens with Facebook only, it is because either their system is failing, or because they are intentionally disconnecting users after 30 minutes. This is not an uncommon complaint.

I always experience the same issue when streaming via a 4G router. But in my case it's about 1h. It's not target platform limitation nor OBS bug. However, as my network connection bounced, OBS isn't even trying to reconnect. During that bounce network isn't available for couple of seconds, but after that it's fully functional, but OBS just cannot deal with that. Currently I'm looking for a workaround to wrap my network interface with some buffer out of OBS. Also, I'm wondering if ffmpeg or gstreamer can handle this issue. I have attached my syslog where you can find more details than in OBS logs. That OBS shutdown was triggered by me - OBS needs to be restarted after such failure. BTW. It can't even close the stream, so needs to be killed.

Alright, here we go. First off all, hi everyone! I hope I can get to the bottom of this, with your help :-) Thank you so much for your time & assistance!

I'm using Yellow Duck & OBS in order to stream live on Instagram on a Mac. My issue is quite similar to the one explained here and on a bunch of other topics on the forum.

I've tried to rule out a bunch of possible reasons:
1) Not hitting any hotkeys and thus stopping the stream. Not even touching the Mac actually. Mac is set to never go to sleep either using the "Amphetamine" app.
2) No Output timer set.
3) ISP is not attempting to control your traffic usage by resetting your connection at regular intervals. --> NOT SURE about this to be honest, though watching Netflix for hours for instance also is not an issue, or using Zoom or other video conferencing apps for more than 30 min., which I guess would indicate my connection isn't reset, right?
4) My router is not configured to renew its DHCP leases on a regular basis. (Well the DHCP expires after 10 days, at which point I guess it gets renewed).
5) My ISP is not experiencing a technical problem on a regular basis, the internet connection is actually running quite stable.
6) My streaming platform should not be disconnecting me for x reason. - Anyone knows where I'd look for this on Instagram if this was the case? Does Yellow Duck provide log files?

Last not least: I am playing vinyl records on my live stream - I've thought of this, i.e. copyright issues - being the root cause, however there is no notification about this anywhere in my notifications or emails. Plus, it would be odd that this disconnect always happens at the same time, i.e. after 30 min. right?

Ok, long story short, fingers crossed this is giving any insights, here's the log file from my most recent session earlier today:

No output session in your log.

Please make a new thread, post a logfile, and include in that logfile a complete output session that includes your problem.

Hi, Narcogen. I am truly a beginner with OBS. I was wondering if you could explain something to me about the source file on OBS. I am trying stream a simulated or pre-recorded video to Facebook. I did two "test runs." The first one the screen was totally "black" on Facebook and the only audio I heard was what was coming out of my TV. The second test run, I actually had the pre-recorded video on Facebook, LIVE, but with no sound. This has been very confusing. From one test to the second test, I am not sure what I did.

Same here. i get audio issues every single time we broadcast to FB live. And its somewhere around that 30 min mark. Is anyone getting great audio broadcasting to FB reliably??

So i've updated the software and am still running into the same problems. I can't seem to get a log file as what happens after 30 minutes is the KBPS drops to 0, i Click "Stop Streaming" and nothing happens and i then have to force quit the program to exit. Here the log for 2 streams, the second one is the one that failed after 30 minutes, i stopped the first one prematurely.

Any ideas?
This is exactly my issue after 3years. Has it been resolved. I've tried every possible thing.

I have the same issue:

- I use LTE connection with huawei home router
- When I stream directly from OBS to twitch I don't have this problem
- When I use a custom setup with Nginx+RTMP module I get the issue described in this post.

I described the technical details to how I tried to debug this issue here
https://github.com/arut/nginx-rtmp-module/issues/1531

I think there is something in common between my setup and what you guys have but I can't put my finger on it yet.

It seems that this problem is specific to OBS, as I tried Xsplit now with the same server and it passed the 30 minutes mark, I believe then that this is a problem specific to OBS.

Yesterday I tried streamlabs OBS version and it has the same issue.

Today I tried to stream with OBS from my PC (windows) to my laptop (Archlinux) on the same network and it worked.

So I assume the problem has to do with one of the following:
1. The home router WAN interface
2. The ISP network limitations (Vodafone DE)
3. The VPS provider network (Hetzner) -- I will eliminate this as I asked them and they replied that they don't have limitation in their configurations

Another piece of the problem is one of previous items + OBS , as Xsplit worked I assumed they worked around this issue in their code, that solution doesn't exist in OBS code.

Same here OBS audio starts getting TONS of static usually around that 30 min mark then sounds like were underwater. I have to CLOSE OBS then restart stream losing lots of viewers to fix it! Why why WHYYYY.
