Dear Exeldro,
Thank you for the fantastic Source Dock plugin—it’s transformed how I manage my OBS setup by providing a clickable, Multiview-like interface for scene previews!
I have a feature request that I believe would make Source Dock even more powerful for users like me who work with layered scenes in live productions.
Feature Idea: Add an option to include or exclude a specific source within a scene (e.g., a slides layer) from a scene’s preview in the Source Dock, while keeping that source visible in the scene’s program output when selected.
Use Case: My setup includes three scenes (Cam 1, Cam 2, Cam 3), each with a ptz camera source, a nested audio scene, and a top-layer slides source e.g. powerpoint. The slides often obscure the camera feed in the program output, which is intentional for the live feed. However, when using Source Dock to preview these scenes, the slides also cover the camera feed in the dock, making it hard to monitor the cameras and make adjustments to the ptz controls. I currently use projectors to view raw camera feeds, but Source Dock’s clickable interface is much more elegant. I’d love to configure Source Dock to show the scene’s camera feed without the slides source in the dock’s preview, while ensuring the slides remain in the program output when I select the scene to go live.
Why It’s Valuable:
- Improved Monitoring: Users could monitor critical sources (e.g., cameras) in Source Dock without top-layer overlays (e.g., slides or graphics) obscuring the preview.
- Streamlined Workflow: Combines the benefits of raw source previews with Source Dock’s clickable scene-switching, reducing reliance on projectors or extra scenes.
- Flexibility: Supports complex live production setups where scenes have multiple layers, common in worship, streaming, or event broadcasting.
Implementation Thoughts: Perhaps this could be implemented by adding a setting in the Source Dock dialog to specify a source within a scene to display but retain the scene as the target for clicks?
I’d be happy to provide more details, test prototypes, or assist with development if you’re open to it.
I know you maintain many plugins and appreciate your time. This feature would be a game-changer for my workflow and likely others with similar setups. Please let me know if this aligns with Source Dock’s roadmap or if you’d like to discuss further!
