Some questions as a beginner

Hey guys :)

I'm new in this world and kinda wanna get rid of some questions here, hope it's the correct thread for that.
I have some experience in video editing (worked in a small tv channel 10+ years ago) therefore I know how important it is to have good quality recordings and seperate tracks! My native language is german, so please be kind if you find weird phrasings. :)

  1. The plan is to record gameplay (Guild Wars 2, if that's important), my own voice while I play with friends and/or do intended commenting but not neccessarily (or atleast seperated) voicechat. How can I get that job done? So far I only found the options to seperate channel for my "Desktop Audio" and my Microphone, the problem is, that my "Desktop Audio" is basically everything (Gamesound, Music, Discord, Voicechat) etc. How can I seperate sounds from other programs (not devices) from each other, similar to the windows settings, where you can regulate volumes for every software. I would like to have one sound channel for the Game, one for my own microphone, one for discord and maybe one for spotify (or better disabled spotify). Is that possible at all with OBS?

  2. How can i record files that I then can import into video editing software? Will the remuxed .mp4 have several audio channel? Sadly can't try that out right now, need a video editing software first. .) Any recommendations for free/trial use before I decide to buy the Adobe Creative Package? I probably want to work with Premiere aswell, since I know that software and kinda need Photoshop and Lightroom for photography anyways and also want to learn some After Effects basics to create an intro etc. :) Are the monthly paid packages sharable? Or is it for 1 device only? Sorry those questions aren't related anymore.
My current recording settings are as follows: If you see major flaws, pls let me know :)

Sorry, missed the editing timing:

I will do a testrecording (not intented to be used) tonight to see if there's hardware issues, how big the file will be and how the quality overall is. I currently have 1TB of external HDD (USB 3.0) for the savings, not optimal but my built in SSD has only 500GB, from which ~200GB are already used. I guess 1TB will be enough for ~5 hours of Gameplay recordings. Should I upgrade here or are external HDD in general fine? I could buy a 2/3TB HDD and built it into the computer, not willing to invest into big SSD right now tho, since I just spent ~1600€ for this computer (upgraded to new gen GPU and CPU).
The current plan would be to only work on one project at a time. Record -> Edit -> Export -> Upload -> Delete. 1TB fine?

You need to separate ("split") audio from general Desktop Audio. There is a huge number of articles and guides that discuss this.

In general, it works like this: you install a virtual audio device and configure the app you want to record to output its sound not to the default device but to that virtual audio device. In OBS, you record that virtual audio device. These guides all deal with separating audio with different focus:

Luckily, Guild Wars 2 has the configuration option to output its audio to some audio device you select, so install a virtual audio device and direct GW2 to that device, then record this device with OBS Studio. To be able to still hear the audio of Guild Wars (it's no longer output to Desktop audio), you can either use Voicemeeter as mixer or use a somewhat obscured Windows feature. For that, you open the old Windows sound panel where all audio devices are listed in tabs as recording and playback devices. Select the tab with the recording devices and locate the virtual audio device, then open its properties. In some of these tabs, there is a setting called "Listen to this device" (german: "Dieses Gerät als Wiedergabequelle verwenden". Activate this and direct the sound to your speakers.

If you want to record everything to separate audio tracks for postprocessing (game sound, headpones from voip chat, microphone from voip chat), you can do it this way:

This way, track 1 contains everything for quick preview and the additional tracks everything on its own.
Make sure to activate the output of multiple audio tracks in Settings->Output->Recording->Audio Track. You need to activate advanced output for multiple audio tracks.

Thank you very much, that sounds very complicated and it seems like there is no easy solution for when i record over when i don't, meaning if I install the virtual device i either have to run it everytime i play or change the settings everytime I play without recording.

Thanks for the massive guide here! ;)

Once set up, it's not complicated to use. It just works. If you use the "Listen to this device" option, your game comes out of your speakers even if you're just gaming and not running OBS. However, any solution with Voicemeeter from the above guides need Voicemeeter running, and because of that I mentioned that option.

But the virtual audio device is required. If you want to split audio from a game running on the same machine as OBS, there is no way around this. OBS isn't able to grab audio directly from just one app like with capturing video. Instead, it's capturing audio from audio devices, and for you being able to capture one app only, you need some audio device for this one app only.

I am running my speaker and my headphones via an usb audio interface. That means i have an entire motherboard free of Audio outs. :)
I'll just connect a cable that leads to nowhere and then try your workaround. I'll come back to you later! Thanks!
