Question / Help [solved] Bitrate jumps to 0kb/s and back up [Dropping frames]

Hello,
this is not the first time I've asked these questions because I've posted this in other forums too and still haven't found any solution. Hopefully here's someone who can figure out whats the problem here.

I can't really stream quite well because I'm dropping frames (11%-20%) which can be really annoying for me and for the viewers. The bitrate keeps dropping to 0% like every 5-10 seconds or sometimes every minute or more and then goes back up to normal. I am not 100% sure which side is doing something wrong, is it me or is it on Twitch's end? What could be a solution for me?
[Sideinfo: I can stream with an constant bitrate of 3,5k over Steam without any lags or framedrops]

/edit: This issue only happens when I try to stream to the Twitch Servers. Its weird that when I watch another ones Livestream on Source its totally fine. I don't have any loading issues with the site or anything. Only streaming to it is a problem.

Someone said I should do a traceroute to multiple twitch servers to find the one with the least packet loss. But I don't really know how to do so. Could anyone also explain me how to correctly do a traceroute?

/edit: Here a test broadcast of me settings where you can see the problem (streaming at 2,3k bitrate and buffer, 540p):

I've also tried every single server available on OBS but always got the same results with the jumping to 0kb/s.
Here are the logs if needed (~30 to 60sec streaming time, all same settings):

Checklist:
Try changing servers: done, did not work (see headpost)
Try lowering bitrate: done, even with a bitrate of 800kb/s the issue still remains.
Don't stream over wireless: I use LAN Cat6 to my speedport router
Check for throttling: I did, I don't get throttled. Example: constant streaming over steam
Check your firewall / router / antivirus / network software: I port forwarded TCP 1935 and even disabled my firewall and anti virus program to see if the issue resolves, but it didn't
Try another streaming service: I tried Steam with an bitrate of 3500kb/s. Worked fine for me like mentioned.
Testmy.net: Used it cause people said its a reliable source to see your real upload speed. (picture above)
Update Network Adapter Driver: Its on the latest build
Bad router or bad networking hardware: Is not the case in reference that I streamed over Steam. All working fine.

Looks like it has something to do with the Level 3 Servers. Is there anything I can do?

The issue have been resolved! Don't exactly know what solved it now but thats a list what I did the last days and what could've changed it:
- called my ISP (/edit: They just wrote me, that they can't do anything against that)
- contacted Twitch
- reinstalled my Ethernet Driver (Killer Network Manager)

One of this resolved it for now. Just tried to stream and everything worked well on a bitrate of 2,5k! I'll do another test tomorrow and if I don't report back here, its probably completely resolved.

Everything is still working one day after. I report back in a week.

I read the whole thread before I posted here and tried everything what could've helped. The thing is I don't believe that its a routing problem. Maybe its caused by a huge packet loss, but I don't think so. Are there any packet loss tests which can be done with the twitch servers? There has to be an solution.

Alright, so I've tried Hitbox.tv. On the Germany 1 Server I had the same issue like on Twitch but then I switched to the Germany 2 server and all was fine. No framedrops no lag. Also I've tried streaming on connectcast.tv. Worked also fine.

So what does that mean now? Would streaming to a virtual server and then sending it from there to Twitch help? Someone also said something about direct connection instead of going through my router. Is that good or not? Because I wouldn't have my Routers Firewall anymore, right?

That you were able to replicate the issue on one of the other hotbox servers, its something with the routing. contact ISP is your best bet but that might not get results. even though you found 1 hotbox server that works says that its seemingly random. trace routes are easy. type in tracert in a dos box then the host you want to query.
ex: tracert live-fra.twitch.tv then see if it stalls anywhere. seeings * isn't always mean its bad, but seeing certain points that jump in ping could mean something. because you hit that point to get to the next.

I am having the exact same issue as this guy....for 2 weeks now. I have done literally everything to try and fix, just as he has, had a technician come over and say everything looks good as well. I am running out of options...and streaming is a big part of my income at the moment, so anything would help me...

Do you have any suggestions for me? Would my latest log help at all? https://gist.github.com/anonymous/e05539025811e5d0cd49

Ok so I've done the traceroute thing with the cmd.exe. I've greyed out the IPs. "Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung" means "Request timed out".

Second test: http://i.imgur.com/rKq4NC7.png

Looks like it has something to do with 4 and 5, correct? Is there anything I can do against that?

- Someone else in my thread on reddit says that "the ingest servers don't respond to ICMP ping requests". Is that right?
- For example, would it help if I stream to the server of my friend and his server sends my stream to twitch?

/edit: I've added a preview broadcast of the issue: http://www.twitch.tv/spoonstv/b/619910362

unsure if ingests ping or not. you should let it complete all hops. might take a while. not all hops ping so its usually when you seen one hop with a high ping that there is an issue. I would contact ISP and maybe post on twitch's support twitter page.

I did let it complete all hops. From 7 to 30 its always "Request timed out". I've also contacted my ISP with that. Lets see what they say. I've also tweeted this to the Twitch Support.

But my questions still remain:

Just found out that the issue is probably on the Level3 servers I connect to. Is there anything I can do? Is the only way to contact my ISP or should I contact Level3 somehow?

let you isp know where the issue is. But you need to do more than one tracert. One to each of the servers you are having issues with. If you notice the same router (not server) then this issue might be just outside your isp

I'm having this same problem as well lately.
My download is 105 Mbps with and upload of around 10Mbps and this issue has just recently started occurring. My ISP is Comcast, though it doesn't seem to be anything specifically related to my connection, not sure if its OBS related or if something actually changed based on how the ISP is routing my connection.

If you really got the same issue as me, its not OBS related. Its this case:
NOTE: This thread contains EVERY piece of dropped frames advice we can give. If you really truly honestly super duper actually 100% tried everything in this thread(including replacing hardware), and you STILL have issues then the problem is somewhere along the route between you and whichever server you are trying to stream to. In this case, there will not be anything you can do to resolve the issue as an end user.

Contact your ISP or someone who is responsible for the bad routing is probably the only solution. Or maybe stream over a VPN, but I haven't tried that yet. Still waiting for my ISPs response.

Its still all fine! Also it came out that my ISP did nothing... So it could only be Twitch or reinstalling my Ethernet driver. I report back in a week.

/edit: Still all fine. -10th of february

/edit: Nothing changed so far. I'm happy. -15th of february

/edit: and it starts again?... -24th of april

/edit: it got fixed, but who knows for how long :/ -27th of april
