Question / Help Recording with headphone surround sound possible?

Hello OBS community :]

is it possible to record headphone surround sound that is produced by the sound card? I have a Dolby Headphone sound card but when I record/stream with OBS I only have stereo sound. I tried to route the sound with a cable from my sound card output to my sound card input and enabling this in input as sound source in OBS, but there were two problems: (1.) I hear a quiet beep because my sound card input is bad and (2.) I can't choose my microphone anymore. I tried to solve the second problem by using the DirectShow Audio Source Plugin and adding an audio source to my scene in OBS, but then I have constant sound interruptions approximately every 0.7 seconds in the recording file/stream.

Regards,

Edit: I found a solution for the sound interruption problem:

OBS only supports stereo audio. There is no reason to ever need to stream anything more than stereo audio. 99% of your viewers will be listening with 2 channel speakers or headphones anyway, so it would be a complete waste.

I'm talking about headphone stereo surround. It works this way: My sound card takes a 5.1 sound from the game and converts it to a stereo Dolby Headphone surround - so I can hear the game with my headphones nearly the way I would hear it with a 5.1 surround speaker set. Here is a video example, try it out with headphones...

im not sure what you're trying to accomplish is possible, the best thing to do in my opinion, is just leave OBS to capture the game audio in basic stereo form. If your viewers don't have dolby headphone support, they wouldn't be able to hear what you hear anyway, so its still pointless really.

The DH conversion is done by my sound card and not by the sound card of someone who is watching my stream.

i see what you're saying. I still think its a lot of effort to setup for something that basically nobody will care about in the end. I still say you'd be better off just streaming regular stereo audio.

That's what you are thinking, but I very like DH and would like my viewers to be able to hear what I hear. Atm I play Alien: Isolation where surround sound is very important and makes the atmosphere of the game much more intensive. You know that game?

Yeah, played it, loved it, and yes DH does make that game much better, I use DDL personally, which is just as good
