So I've been playing around with OBS for a little while now, and have been struggling to find a sweet spot. I'm looking to record in 1080p/60fps but can't seem to find any stable enough settings for either x264 or H264/265.
My system is as follows:
Ryzen 3 3100 @ 3.8Ghz
RX580 8GB (OC)
16x3200Mhz RAM
My recording settings are:
x264: CBR - 30,000Kbps
H264/265: "Recording" preset - CBR - 30,000Kbps
In both instances, I am recording at 1080p/60fps with Bicubic downscale filter.
When I use my GPU encoder (H264/265) then I notice a higher quality image, but surprising amounts of missed and skipped frames, usually about 20%, which racks up when tabbing out, starting/ending recording or performing a task slightly more intensive than the average "intensity" during a recording.
When using x264, I get a lower quality image, but noticeably less skipped/missed frames (although this does still occur).
I have done tests with lowered settings, such as 720/60 and lower bitrates, all the way down to 4000/6000. This does not seem to make much of a difference, if any at all.
Normally, I would put this down to not having a strong enough system, but I recorded at similar settings before with no problems and the frame skip/miss problems have only arisen recently, seemingly out of the blue.
I am open to any and all ideas that could help :)
