Question / Help Pop-up videos and plugins

First post, and complete noob to streaming/obs, so I apologize.

I do a fair amount of video editing. This is as close as I've come to finding information on inserting custom pop-up videos into my stream. I just picked up an Elgato and have created some basic overlays for it within the Elgato software. I'd also like to eventually add alerts for "followers", etc. I bookmarked a plug in by nightdev, but have yet to try it.

My question is this, how difficult is it to use OBS with a Mac? It appears (at least to me) that many of the updates/plug-ins are Windows only. Is it possible to add overlay effects, etc on a Mac? I'm not too good with coding, etc, but my brother is.

Just seeing if someone can point me in the right direction for a resource or area to read/educate myself.

Moved your post to its own thread as this might be easier. I wasnt sure if you were Mac only so I put it in q&a for OBS but if you are I could move the thread to the mac forum for OBS-MP.

Now to your questions:
The video source plugin for OBS can playback a video (also with transparency) if you switch to a scene holding a video source. Same can be done in OBS-MP (also on Mac) with the Media Source.
To show follower alerts and similar people often use the Browser Plugin with a tool like teeboard or followeralerts.

On Mac you have to use OBS-MP btw, just to point that out.

In general its pretty much the same difficulty on mac/windows with OBS, one thing though. You mentioned Elgato, they unfortunately do not supply drivers for the mac so its a bit more complicated using them OBS as on Windows. You have to capture the elgato software with OBS-MP but then you can add overlays just as you want.

In the future there will probably be more options available in regards to overlays, pop-up's, animations and transitions. If you have further questions feel free to ask them here and check out our resources for guides and the available plugins (they are split into OBS / OBS-MP, but OBS-MP currently only has the Browser Plugin available I think).
