Hi,

I’ve recently started having an issue with OBS and I can’t figure out what’s causing it.

My PC:

● RTX 5080

● Ryzen 7 9800X3D

● 32 GB DDR5

● Gaming at 1440p

My OBS settings:

● Output resolution: 1920x1080

● FPS: 60 FPS

● Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC

● Streaming bitrate: 8000 Kbps

● Audio: 48 kHz

● Webcam: Elgato Facecam MK2

● I also sometimes use Source Record to record certain sources separately.

The issue is pretty specific: when I play without recording, everything works normally.

But as soon as I start recording with OBS, the recorded video becomes choppy/stuttery and doesn’t look smooth.

While gaming, I also notice:

● a small FPS drop when I start recording;

● GPU usage seems noticeably higher;

● on demanding games, my GPU can already be around 90–99% usage.

What confuses me the most is that I used to be able to record with OBS without any issues on this exact same PC. The problem only started recently.

That’s why I don’t necessarily think it’s simply a bad OBS setting, since everything worked fine before.

It feels more like something is using more GPU resources than it used to, or OBS no longer has enough GPU resources available while recording.

The issue mainly happens when recording. If OBS is just open while I’m gaming, I don’t have the same problem.

And most importantly: if my recordings are currently stuttering, am I likely to have the exact same issue when I start streaming at 1080p60? Or does streaming use the GPU differently compared to recording?

If there’s anything specific I should check in Windows, NVIDIA Control Panel, Task Manager, OBS, GPU-Z, or HWiNFO, I’d really appreciate the help.

Thanks!
