Question / Help OBS NVENC stuttering (local recording)

Hello everbody,

I was wondering if you guys might know a remedy for my issue. I am using OBS (64bit) for recording locally using the NVENC encoder. Most of the time it works flawlessly but every so often I get video stuttering in my recordings which is weird considering that during gameplay I do not notice any slow downs or stutters, it all just happens in the recording itself. I am running all of my games on my primary hard drive whereas OBS and the recording itself are running on a secondary hard drive.

I am recording at 1080p, 60fps, VBR (quality 10) and a bitrate of 45.000kbps

My setup:

Intel i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz
Geforce GTX 770
16GB DDR3
2x 1TB Caviar Blue 6GB/s SATA drives
Win7 64bit

It's possible that your 45,000kbps is maxing out your hard drive some? Or that OBS isn't exactly built to handle such a load. I seem to remember trying 50,000 bitrate recording in the past with nvenc and it caused problems for both my game and my recording, but I cannot remember if that had since been fixed. Have you tried lowering your bitrate? In my experience, even 20,000-25,000 is more than enough for recorded video at 1080p 60fps.

The bitrate shouldnt be a problem, 50k kb(it)ps bitrate are about 6mb(yte)ps write speed needed from your HDD. If the HDD really has a problem with that, it would be time for an upgrade. Possible write speeds are normally much much higher. And thanks to VBR it will not necessarily use the full bitrate at all time.
As always it would be good to see a log file:
Problem? Make sure to post a log and/or crash dump -- HOWTO
