I'm going to search for a less CPU intensive tool to record myself and my games. Thanks for the support everyone.

there is none except for hardware encoded tools which use either qsv/nvenc or the amd equivalent

ultrafast on x264 is about as less resource depending as possible

It works. The quality on ultrafast was only bad the first time because it was dark in my room. The video is a little smaller than I wanted but at least it looks good. Thank you for your support.

There's still some audio delay. I'll use a desktop or start blogging instead.
If the audio is delayed, how much? give a rough estimate in ms. There is an optoin called global audio offset. Whatever the ms of the delay, put a negative value in there.

for example, your audio is behind the video by 300ms (roughly 1/3rd of a second). in global audio offset, put -300 as the value.

For some reason I can't get rid of the message that I need the chipset driver in Windows even though I've already tried installing both. I still find it weird that OBS says the Nvidia driver isn't new enough when trying to use Nvenc because my Nvidia driver is up to date. I also have a temporary graphical glitch between the buttons and the demo screen of OBS sometimes when I start recording.

Sorry that I keep giving up. I feel like I'm being annoying by asking so much but I'll try to get better. It's not like I'm going to learn anything from not asking anything.

just post a audio/video test and a logfile that goes with it.

I think taskmanager was lying to me. Now that Steam is done downloading everything goes much faster. Or maybe it's because of the new drivers that HP Support Assistant didn't install on it's own.

I don't think I did because as it turned out my laptop is a potato. I can't even play newer games properly let alone record or stream anything. Then again this is a really old thread and nowadays I'm just waiting for them to fix Windows 10 so I can finally start recording on my current desktop PC instead.
Thanks anyway.

you marked it as solved but yes, weaker laptop hardware does not do well with streaming + gaming.

Its been a while so I don't recall exactly what was keeping your windows 10 desktop from recording. you say you are waiting on ms to fix something in reguards to that? your issue on your desktop might not be operating system as you stayed before. It is more than likely, configuration, conflicting settings, and/or need to optimizations.

can you restate what is wrong with your desktop and a logfile from that system as well? Best bet is to record for 5+ minutes while gaming and post that logfile.

I think turning down shadow quality all the way in Skyrim SE solved my lag. Apparently there is a problem with the engine of that game.

There's also the problem of my voice being turned into weird alien sounds sometimes at random and when I start OBS before my computer can properly start up. Maybe installing the proper Nvidia audio driver has fixed this issue, I'll have to test it soon by triggering the glitch. I'll tell you when I do.

For now it seems my problems have been resolved but just to be sure I'll remove the solved part of the title until I know for sure the alien sounds glitch is gone.

Here's a logfile anyway: https://gist.github.com/785848f10e2537c7976d9ca6bc0ea347

Checked your log. Things look good there with the exception of an increase in your audio buffer. Did you have the issue in the log above? It just seemed like you started OBS then uploaded the logfile.

Preferred is a logfile 5 minutes or more actively streaming and/or recording where you can "trigger" the issue.

I'd like to see what changes when you do that.

48000Hz Audio. Make sure all your audio devices are set to this or else it can cause extra audio latency. by all I mean mic and headphones, speakers, hdmi audio devices. preferably with older games, 44100Hz works better for everything.

Its been a while since I've looked at a log or talked with you so I might have missed something and don't recalled exactly what I had you do.
