OBS does not start no matter what I do...

Hi, I have recently downloaded OBS because I want to record some video game footage and this programme was recommended to me by multiple sites and people. So I did the normal thing, download the install file and install it. However, as soon as the installation is complete and I want to start the app, it says "OBS did not shut down properly", even though this is my first time starting it in the first place. It gives me the options to start it in "Normal Mode" or in "Safe Mode". Neither of those two options does anything, the window just disappears and nothing happens. I tried launching it as administrator, again, does not work. So I searched up my issue online and see if anyone has a fix for this problem. And there are a multitude of suggestions.

After trying different approaches for a while, the problem is still there. I updated my drivers for my graphics card, deleted or renamed suggested folders and files in the %appdata%, edited the properties of the application, compatibility, etc. None of it does anything. And before someone asks, yes, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programme multiple times and restarted my pc as well. Again, it doesn't fix anything. It does not even show up in my task manager, so I cannot manually close anything either. At this point, I have run out of ideas of what to do. The only remaining thing I can think of is that my PC is still Windows 10 and not compatible with the current version or something.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could solve this problem? I would really like to use this software but if I can't get it to work no matter what, I will have to look for alternative options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

OBS log file can be found manually by the next path (and you may use Windows File Explorer to find it):
%APPDATA%\obs-studio\logs
Attach the log (if there any) to your post. It may contain the clues where OBS process was terminated and why.

To start with, "steam" is not a launch parameter.

It's included when OBS is launched via Steam.

Yeah, after it didn't launch normally i tried to install it on steam and launch it that way, but that did not work either

Unfortunately the log cuts off right after trying to load up the graphics adapter, which should throw an error or be followed by a log line saying it was successful.

The fact you get neither is extremely bizarre.

In the earlier builds of OBS it was possible to try to load OpenGL engine instead of Direct3D11 in Windows. So, advanced user went to the folder where "obs64.exe" lies and renamed the "libobs-d3d11.dll" file in this folder to the "_libobs-d3d11.dll" (the "_" as the first letter added). This way OBS failed to find the Direct3D lib and immediately falls back to loading the OpenGL library (obviously, the log had corresponding message that the D3D11 load failed). It seams, this was useful feature...

Anyway,
All OBS builds (under the "Assets" spoiler): https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases
According to the log, you may try "Windows-x64" variants (the "zip" or "installer" versions of the builds). For the test purposes you may wish to launch the v29.1.3 or earlier builds (before the shader cache was implemented; when OBS had the OpenGL as fallback mechanism etc). It may or may not work at all. In my opinion better to try portable installation of OBS (each version in its own folder). How to make OBS portable you may find in the Help: https://obsproject.com/kb/portable-mode or learn it from some other threads on the forum (just search for it).

Ok, I tried both suggestions, but sadly neither of them works. When I use the v29.1.3, the same problem exists, except I don't even get the error message anymore, just nothing happens. Then I tried to do the portable mode following the instructions, but same problem still exists.

I can't find the log folder for that version. Do I have to uninstall other versions first for it to generate a logs folder for the older version?

OBS log files for casual install located in:
%APPDATA%\obs-studio\logs
OBS crash reports for casual install located in:
%APPDATA%\obs-studio\crashes

OBS log files for portable version located in the special newly created "config" folder in the folder from where this OBS was started portable, so:
the_portable_folder_from_where_you_launching_your_obs\config\obs-studio\logs
OBS crash reports for portable version located in the special newly created "config" folder in the folder from where this OBS was started portable, so:
the_portable_folder_from_where_you_launching_your_obs\config\obs-studio\crashes
(take in mind that the "config" folder lies next to the "bin", "data" and "obs-plugins" folders, aka "in the root folder" of the portable installation tree, not inside the "bin")

If there any crash reports, please attach them too.

Edit: each OBS version places its session log in the same folder, so if log created - it is in the same folder but has its own timestamp (named differently). OBS keeps about 10 logs, and replaces old with new one on each launch.

ok thank you, I found one with the earlier version of OBS, I will post that here

And what happens if you try to rename the "libobs-d3d11.dll" in OBS folder for v29.1.3 (procedure was mentioned few posts above)? Is there any new messages in the OBS log? Just wonder.

I think I tried that, but I couldn't see any noticeable difference, though I am not sure I have checked the log for that change specifically, I might have to try it again and check...

It wouldn't fix your problem, just interesting for me how good the old OBS algorithms works.
If back to the original problem - you rather need to look at your OS (maybe consider full Reset). If OBS even can't create D3D device - the things is bad. But before you made some destructive changes to your OS try few diagnostic steps. First step is look at the Windows Event Viewer. You are looking for the Windows Logs for "System" log and maybe "Application" log. At the time when OBS launched and terminated there should appear new entries that may have some clues why your OS terminated the OBS program so rapidly.
