OBS corrupting MKV files

Hey!

As the title says, OBS recently started to corrupt my MKF files. When I edit them with videopad, the videos have a freeze-frame for 1 - 3 seconds everywhere where I made a cut. The problem appears only after exporting. I already contacted someone from videopad. Considering the issue only happens with the recent MKF files (older MP4 and AVI videos work just fine), there must be something wrong on OBS side. I already reinstalled an older version, but unfortunately it didn't fix it. Here a short clip of the problem.

Hi,
Since I found it very strange that OBS would corrupt MKV files, I did a quick search on the internet.
After a short search for “VideoPad problems with MKV,” I found the following:
- VideoPad often has problems with MKV files, which can manifest themselves in the form of crashes or playback problems. It is recommended to convert MKV files to another format such as AVI or H.264 before editing them in VideoPad.

You could have found that instead of blaming OBS.
It would be better to use another editing program, such as KDenlive.

Best regards, John

I've been editing MKV files with videopad for years now. The problem just occurred, a couple of days after the latest OBS update. Personally, I don't think that's that much of a stretch.

The issue is that standards evolve over time. so what was fine, won't necessarily remain that way. yea, i know... the joy of IT
In this case, they may have been compatible but now aren't. or new OBS Studio isn't compatible with old videopas, or?? there are LOTS of possibilities for incompatibility, like use of multi-track audio, or custom settings, or ?? the list is endless
so, you could wait to see if others reply
or you could post your OBS Studio log (or at least all relevant recording settings) and which version of video editor(s) you are using? Have you tried an alternate editor to check?

Hey @Lawrence_SoCal

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I'm too familiar with that kind of IT joy. It's why I came here for help: Something that worked for years all of a sudden doesn't worked anymore, and the latest change that happened was the OBS update. You find a log attached. I'm using the latest VideoPad version, 17.30. And no, I haven't tried it out with a different editor. I paid good money for VideoPad and like to work with it. Even if it would work with another editor, it's just not an alternative for me.

A work-around I figured out is, converting the "funky" MKF file to an AVI file and then editing it. There are no more freeze-frames when I do it this way. So it's not the end of the world if we can't figure it out now, but ultimately it would be nice to get rid of that extra step again.

If you need any more information, let me know. Thanks for your help!
