Question / Help Nvidia NVENC Issue PLEASE HELP!

Hello. So I recently upgraded my GPU to an Nvidia GTX 970 for the purposes of playing more PC games, as well as using the NVENC codec to record with OBS. When doing things locally on the PC it's fine, however when I try to use the Elgato HD60, everything blows up.

It will either record the first 3 seconds and then the elgato will freeze (the webcam stays fine) or it will record the elgato severely lagged and WAY DE-synced from the sound (which one depends on the setting I choose).

The HD60 works fine with the regular CPU codec (I have an i5 so it can only do 720p 60fps with the elgato) however when I try to switch to NVENC it just doesn't want to play nice. Normally I would just switch back to the CPU codec and record in 720, however I dropped the money on the 970 for the ability to play PC games more (it's awesome at that) as well as record in OBS at 1080p 60fps (just won't work)

Not sure if there is a Dev or someone what would be able to help me out with why I am having this issue however it is extremely frustrating and any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Mitchell.

Not sure I can help, but since I'm not familiar with the Elgato and only heard of it, I was curious to know what benefits it would bring to the table when recording things from and to the same computer, especially using OBS. OBS will have to encode anyway, so why not just use the game capture feature directly instead of going through the Elgato ?
Just curious really, as I may have missed something with this device. I thought it was intended for multiple platforms recording ( console to pc, pc to another pc, ... )

Also if you want to record locally and do not need fancy scenes stuff ( or are able to add them in post-prod ), maybe I could suggest you to give a try to Shadowplay, the very own Nvidia recorder. It really works like a charm for local recording with great quality and no impact at all on performances.

NVENC is the technique used by Shadowplay btw.

Anyway, if you are just capturing PC games, using a capture card provides no benefit at all and certainly not with a crappy USB 2.0 capture device.

Also post a log, preferably a session where you had these problems.

Yeah, that's what I meant whith Shadowplay. It's just simpler and better imho to use Nvidia's native software to record locally using NVenc than OBS, unless you want to add a webcam or things like that ( and even then Shadowplay supports webcams overlay, you just can't really move things around ).

And thanks, I was indeed under the impression using a Elgato device on a single computer was kind of useless and redundant. Now if he was to use a second computer, it would be useful.

So yeah OP you now have a bit of an answer, just forget about the Elgato and directly record your games using game capture with NVenc if you really want to use OBS. Or go Shadowplay ( installed alongside GeForce experience ).

Post a log nonetheless for advanced help ;)

I'm recording console stuff with the Elgato. The reason I use OBS over the elgato software is for the facecam and not having to sync it up for every video. Like I said, it does the webcam fine, as well as any PC games, but just can't seem to cooperate with the Elgato for some reason?
