Question / Help League of Legends Stream FPS Drop

Greetings OBS,

Now, before I get called out or told to search the forums, I did. I've read through several different posts about people with the same issues. Upon fiddling with my settings to maybe match theirs or seeing different results, I still get a significant FPS drop when streaming league of legends.

Normally, when I play league, I get 60+ frames without it dipping below that even in team fights on medium+ settings. Recently I've been trying optimal settings for OBS and League and I drop to 20-30 FPS while streaming. Now I know a drop is normal while streaming. More stuff is going on, more resources are being used, and my computer and net are taking a toll because as I'm playing, it's all being uploaded. I get that and understand it completely. I would just like to know if anyone could shed some light as to why league seems to be the only one that tends to die down.

I encourage you to look at my other streams for other past games and they play a constant 30+ FPS with Zero dropped frames and look super amazing.

Darksiders Stream
Tomb Raider Ending Stream
Sonic Adventure DX Stream

Now those 3 and my others were achieved by using OBS' trusty Estimator Tool (Thanks SOO Much for that). And with the same settings, I can't see why League just wants to drop in FPS so dramatically.

Here are my Computer's Specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth z77
RAM: 16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K OC 4.0Ghz
GFX Card: EVGA nVidia GTX 660 Ti 3GB+
Monitors: ASUS 22" x2
Software: Open Broadcast Software

Here are my logs if that helps at all - http://pastebin.com/LiVSEY3T
I tried using the Analyzer, but all it tells me to do is enable Aero if I'm using window capture, but since it's League, I do Monitor. (Don't know how well window would work for league any who). But even still, after all that is said and done, and I put my league settings all the way to low, I still see this FPS drop while streaming. :(

Again, if you could shed some light on maybe helping me out, it would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to stream league without taking a hindrance to my game play if possible.

I believe its got something to do with the method of capturing League. I myself am struggling in trying to find the correct settings to use. But I tried monitor capture, screen capture, game capture, etc and they all give me different effects in terms of FPS. I dont know why its not doing it with other games, but it may just be another League "special". Try using game capture instead.

and hint: LOL is two different windows. One is PVP.net the other is something or another (I forget). So then you have to mess with sources and inputs and all that jazz aswell.

That is the one thing I truly despise about League. I love the game in all other aspects, but it being built on the Adobe Air platform and all that jazz really irks me. If it was a single EXE like almost every other game, I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't have a problem. That's the whole reason I do monitor capture because I know the game itself is dynamic and changes sources and resources so it's hard to follow.

Just wanted to see if anyone has figured out the trick and is willing to share their knowledge. I know most high end streamers have dual GFX cards with SLI so they can take an FPS beating and a half and still output 60+ FPS. League is the only game I have this issue with :(

I just dont understand why its like that. When I look at other streamers who use OBS they get great quality and here I am getting that. Im even using game capture, which is supposed to be the best. I just feel like its setting related but I cant seem to figure it out. Plus noone is really helping much on my thread xD

I actually dont really know many streamers that use SLI, unless they use a 2pc setup or capture card. But anyway on Windows 7 Monitor capture is the worst method you can use to capture something. It of course works but because of the way windows 7 renders the desktop its not the fastest method. If you run league in window mode anyway, activate aero and use either Window or Game Capture.
Last but not least I recommend each and every LoL player to limit the ingame fps to 60 to free up cpu/gpu room the game would just eat up if you have unlimited fps for example.
@deansep, the video you linked from youtube looked pretty ok for a stream and you got help right after you linked the log that was asked for :) Looking at your log there seems to be not much you can do. 2700bitrate is pretty ok for LoL and your processor probably will not allow more compression. So unless you only want to record for youtube you will have to accept a bit worse quality than on your screen. I would actually like to see a twitch vod or something with those settings of a full game.

Hey Jack0r!

Thanks for your reply man. When I get home, I'll deff give those settings a whirl. I just wanted to achieve a one stop shop method and not have to go about switching scenes and stuff for league.

Could you explain that method. Especially with a game like league. In game is one process, but out you have that Adobe Air thing. How would I go about setting that up?

Please and thank you, all help is GEEATLY appreciated.

that OBS plugin should at least remove the need for you to manually switch scenes, as far the the blurry game is concerned, I really think leauge is just not playing nice with OBS right now, there seems to be a lot of that problem going on right now.

You Sir, are one of the many reasons I have made the switch to OBS. When I get home, I will be fiddling with all of these awesome new suggestions and trying out my stream. If I get a steady FPS increase, please expect me to come back to this forum and scream like a little girl. You have been warned, and thanks a million.

Will post results.

Hold the phone -- Can I just hug you all and scream like a little girl now? Because of the helpfulness, links and down right AWESOMENESS of OBS, I made the jump from 20 FPS to 60 FPS while in game on Medium+ settings during streaming.

Thank You So Damn Much. Jack0r, deansep, xiuide, and any other collaborators on this project and plugin. So glad I finally took the time out to ask and get the help I needed. Many thanks my friends!

Keep up the amazing work and OBS yet again steals my vote.
