Question / Help Latency Spike

I have been away from streaming for a few months since moving and not playing PC games anymore. Recently I have started playing WoW again and tried to stream. I am in a new house with new internet. My base speeds are 15 download and 1 upload. When I start my stream, after about 20 seconds my latency spikes and my upload drops to <.2. I have downloaded the most recent version of OBS with the same result. Any suggestions on what to do? Could it be my router? I have about the same speeds as I had at my old house.

Well based on the information you have supplied you probably are attempting to output a higher bit rate then your internet can handle. The 20 second latency spikes you are experiencing when you start streaming is likely because OBS takes 15-20 seconds to establishing a connection to your steam server. The reason your internet speed drops is because OBS is using almost all you upload speed. You are probably playing the new WoW expansion which increased the games visuals which will use more bandwith to live stream. You only have three options. The first you will need to upgrade your upload speed through your internet service provider. The second is to decrease your OBS stream quality settings to decrease your bit rate. Third increase the OBS stream encoding setting to use less bitrate but will require more cpu usage.
