Question / Help Is OBS Right for my laptop??? Please Respond ASAP

There are many screen recorders out there, but many people have recommended OBS to me, because it is free and "good". Now all I am looking for in a recorder is free, minimal lag, simple user interface, and maybe some 720p quality. So my question is, should I look for another screen recorder? I don't stream, the OBS settings are overwhelming, and I get a lot of dropped frames. Unless someone can give me GOOD settings for a BUDGET LAPTOP (intel core i3 and Intel HD Graphics 5500), I may switch out to another software. Also, if anyone knows of a better software that meets my requirements, please comment below :D

Post your logfile from when you recorded your "high motion game" for at least 5 minutes or more.

This is one of the games I will be recording... Less Lag than others... it's settings fully optimized for performance, and I recorded on high performance battery and high performance graphics... Usually, without recording, ALWAYS 55fps or above... anyways, here is the link: https://gist.github.com/33a23731f2580f82e34d
You have a slow i3 CPU, you need to be using your GPU instead for recording. To do this, follow the below settings:

Change your encoder to Quicksync, uncheck CBR, set QB (quality balance) to 7, and buffer (not bitrate) to 0. bitrate wont matter anymore but you will get excellent quality and less lag in games.

Lastly, you have your resolution all messed up, set your resolution to 1366x768 (16:9) instead of 1366x705. and also set OBS to match your audio bitrate. you currently have OBS set to 48kHz and your audio device (mic and speakers) are probably 44.1kHz.

Ok thanks! The only thing I have a little confusion about, is that I can only edit my quality balance on x264, not quick syn. Also, I mentioned that frames were dropped when recording, will this help much? Will it lower my fps further

Post a new log. quicksync quality is set under the quicksync tab in settings I believe

I just need a straight-to-the-point answer, that tells me exactly what settings should be changed, where they should be changed, and why they should be changed. Screenshots would be very helpful...

I did tell you what to change.

(set) buffer (not bitrate) to 0. bitrate wont matter anymore but you will get excellent quality and less lag in games.

don't use monitor capture. use window or game capture and remove the monitor capture completely. that will help your lag alot.

I saw, but I am still a little confused, could you send me some screenshots of what advanced, encoding and video settings should look like?? I would be very grateful if you could do so :)

What are you confused about. in the encoding tab there is a setting called buffer, set that to 0. on the main window of OBS you have a few bitmap images and a monitor capture source. remove the monitor capture source and add a game or window capture (preferable game), start your game then alt-tab back to OBS and configure the game capture to your game. If you have further issues, you should probably read through the help guide about all the options and what you can do with OBS.

this would be far better than me telling you to do certain things. I'd rather you try something and see if it works and if/when something isn't working, you post your log and we'll make corrections.
