Question / Help Is my bitrate good enough? How to upload high quality videos to youtube

Im running at 3500 bitrate, I just bought a new webcam logitech c920. So I'm pretty sure my videos would be really high quality. But when I upload to youtube, it just capped my videos at 480p. I don't know how to get higher quality than that. Any tips or help?

is it off topic if i also want to ask about sound recording as well? I don't know if I should get a mic or a headset. right now the sound from my recording sound loud all over, that is odd. I want it to sound clear like on other stream

Post your logfile from when you recorded and maybe a link to your video

This is the one im just done recording
first, turn off CBR, that will enable VBR which will raise the quality since you have 0 buffer.

second, I think youtube recommends 2 bframes consecutive, not 16. YT might be having problems translating your b frames for all I know.

and btw, you should never stream with 0 buffer or VBR, I noticed that later down the log, you were connected with twitch,tv, which you want the same buffer and bitrate (3500) and CBR on, and no custom x264 settings, none!

I did it, I used the setting for high quality recording and here what I got
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvHMAoS43M0&feature=youtu.be
but the thing is, I would like to also stream in good quality and I want the video i retrieve from stream to have good quality when I upload them on youtube. How to do that? beside setting the bitrate to 3500, enable cbr and so on?
If you're streaming with twitch and not partnered a bitrate of 3500 is gonna really limit your audience, it would probably be best to use a separate program to record if you computer has enough performance.

so what bitrate should i set? if i want to accommodate ppl with not so great internet
'?
2500-3000 is the upper limit. TBH, just follow what your viewers say, if 3/100 are having buffering, I wouldn't worry since 97 are fine. If 15 or more are buffering, I would consider reducing by 200 bitrate until the buffering is manageable

I personally stream at 3500 (on the rare occasions that i do) and my few viewers dont seem to have an issue with that.

Because instead of telling you, most people will just leave.

No, I just dont stream often nor get much traffic when I do, like top 8 viewers. Anyway, your point, though might be true, the ones that watch me when I come online, dont have issues, irrelivent as it may be.

but with that bitrate, the resulting video would be low quality, I would like to upload them to youtube or edit them later so i can put them together

Like I said you should probably use two programs. This is just the nature of twitch if you're not partnered.
