Question / Help Help recording Fx 8350.

I'm recording with an Amd Fx 8350 & Xfx R9 280x. This computer just doesn't feel like it's doing what it should. I see people recording at veryfast with no glitching what so ever. I'm recording at 1080p 30fps and I have to have it set on ultrafast or else it starts to lag. Can anyone look at this and tell me if i'm doing anything wrong? I'm also getting very bad sync on my c920 when recording as you can tell I have to put 540ms in just to match it up with the audio. Something doesn't seem right about this...

FX-8350 isn't a very strong CPU, and high-bitrate 1080p recording will hurt it quite badly, especially if it's not heavily overclocked. Also, when recording and using such high bitrates, you may wish to set OBS to ignore core #0 in task manager, if you're recording games on the PC with it, as the recording will compete heavily with game CPU usage and generally screw up the games' available resources.

It's much better to use low compression and higher bitrates when recording at higher resolutions using x264, because x264 is very inefficient at high resolutions for real-time encoding. It kind of sucks, but it is what it is.

As for your webcam, I'm not sure.

For local recording using less compression doesn't really matter. If the ultrafast preset works then use that, why not? Your file size is going to be pretty big anyway so if you're going to be recompressing with a program like Handbrake later then who cares. You should lower your C920 resolution to 1280x720 however, that's probably causing some performance issues.
