Question / Help Help needed with downscaling and quality

Hey all!

I hope you can help a new streamer out =)

I play in 2560x1080, but since Twitch and most other players are in 16:9 format, I need to downscale it.

Does anyone have the same problem? And if so, what have you done?

The other thing is my quality. I really could use some advice on what I should be aiming for and how to optimize the quality.

My current specs:

Intel Core i7-3930K @ 3.2GHz
16GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX680
Win8 64Bit
(2560x1080)

In OBS, source is Game Capture, Max Bitrate is set to 3500 kbps, FPS 60 (really would prefer to keep it at 60).

I have tried various downscaling resolutions, but the quality is too bad. I mainly want to stream MMOs.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated!!

Thanks in advance.

Latest logfile, just streamed for a few mins.

Only found 1 minor issue; Possible slow server.

I use the fastest one for me though, EU Stockholm (16ms/16ms/0,6ms jitter). Which doesn't seem too shabby?

But it's not like I have any issues, or errors. I just want to optimize my stream quality, and figure out how to downscale to 16:9 properly. =)

720p@60fps is my goal. Dunno if it's possible with my setup though.

You can't downscale to a different aspect ratio than your original aspect ratio. If you want to stream at 16:9, then your base resolution needs to be 16:9. But, of course, your monitor resolution isn't 16:9, so either you play the game in windowed mode at a 16:9 resolution, or you fill in the black bars with some other content (images, webcam, chat), or you just live without streaming at 16:9 (the OBS error about that is not mandatory to fix). Or get a 16:9 monitor and play the game in that.

Ty Dodgepong, I think I will stream in the same aspect ration, so the image isn't screwed up. Cause I don't want to play in a different resolution.

Do you think my upload can handle 1080p@60fps og should I try and optimize 720p@60fps?

I know that some streamers (Like Veev), only have like 5Mb/s upload, and stream 720p@60fps.

1080p60 is a bad idea, especially with that aspect ratio. You won't have enough bit rate to make it look good, and it's too hard for viewers to decode. 720p or lower should be better.

Yeah I tried with 720p60 last night, and viewers said the quality was good, except that they couldn't really see my numbers/small letters very well (HP, chat etc.).

I reckon it's cause my aspect ratio (21:9) makes it look a little wierd, and the only way to "fix" it, would be to somehow force the game into another aspect ratio via the ini file? (bad for me/good for viewers), or just buy another monitor with 16:9 ratio.

Anywho, it has nothing to do with OBS, and I thank you for your help and quick responses.
