Question / Help Help: best streaming settings?

Hello everyone!

I'm kind of new to these forums and would like your help on how to set up the best possible streaming settings for my system. I tried to find the answer in one of the existing posts, but it didn't work out that well for me. I hope anyone of you could help me. The game I stream most of the time is World of Warcraft.

My system is:

Operating System:
windows 7 home premium

Hardware:
Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 64 bits
8 GB RAM
NVIDEA GeForce GTX 770

Internet:
According to speedtest.net I got 23.11 mbp/s download and 20.09 mbp/s upload
According to testmy.net I got 1.7 mbp/s upload
According to UPC (dutch internet provider) I got 23.90 mbp/s download and 24.18 mbp/s upload
According to a fourth site I got 23.7 mbp/s download and 4.7 mbp/s upload

So on average I would guess my download is steady around 20 mbp/s and my upload is somewhere inbetween 1-20 mbp/s. It really depends on sites. The sites that I personally find trustworthy cause of their name (speedtest and UPC) seem to give me a high score, while other sites that upload small file sizes to the web show lower scores.

I hope this information is good enough for anyone of you to help me set up my OBS to the best possible settings. Currently I have major problem with that when I stream and I move around, the video footage gets "blurry" while when I stand still things are really sharp. I hope to even this out!

WoW requires a lot of bandwidth to look good due to high motion. Either increase your bitrate or lower your resolution or FPS.

Thanks for your quick answer. However, could you give more specific settings I should use? Like for example:

Would putting on CBR be best thing to do at this point. Should my bitrate be 3500 or above. Should I change base resolution or change in the "lower resolution" folder. Also I'm running at 60 fps. In other words: I'm kind of desperate right now, not that technical and would love for a list of settings I should put on to get the best out of it.

1080p@30, never 1080p@60 the needed bitrate to sustain a watchable stream is just way too high

then again twitch doesnt really like streams over 3500 bitrate much also your viewer will run into a lot of problems if you are streaming on twitch

usually 1080p@30 or 720p@60 you could also go with 720p@30 as a bitrate i'd recommend to actually not even go over 3k


about your upload test i'd guess you chose the wrong server on testmy.net

and i'd also leave cbr enabled

For me it felt that, even when I disabled aero, my stream would suffer somehow. Despite the fact that I stream with gamecapture. Also when I disable aero my Windows 7 would say that it uses a different color pallet.

well for wow 1080p@30@3k bitrate/buffer is probably a good start but everything above 30fps will make the game look pixelated as f*** because as soon as you move the camera you have a full screen movement with a lot details

Thanks for your reply. Is there a possibility where I run 1080p at 60 fps or at least like 45 and still will make game look good?

I asked this question cause I'm pretty sure I saw some players stream at insane qualities and still maintain like 60 fps. Ironically I think I have only seen it at partners or pro gamers. Really makes me wonder how they obtain such qualities and still keep a large viewer base that aren't affected by lag that much. Would like anyone that could tell me how this is possible and if I can too get this.

only known famous streamer to me which is streaming a high motion game (battlefield 4) with 1080p@60 is widgitybear and hes using something around 4k bitrate i think 4500 and the medium preset and a few more custom parameters running on a 7k$ streaming machine cause the cpu usage is just way too high.

chaox a pretty known lol streamer used to stream 1080p@60 with 2500 bitrate (cause league needs nothing) for a few weeks but he cut out literally 20% of hes viewer not being able to even watch the stream due to the bad flash player.

as a non partnered its actually recommended lately to not even go over 2500-3000 bitrate since you cut out a lot viewer not being able to sustain such a connection to the twitch severs and if you actually try streaming wow 1080p@60 with anything around 3k bitrate you are going to have some real quality drops as soon as theres a lot picture movement.


also phantomlord tried streaming wow with 1080p@45 and hes using a quite low bitrate i guess 2300 and also on medium preset and to be honest the game looked pretty shit as soon as he started moving the cam :/


so i'd really recommend 1080@30@3k bitrate or if you actually want to stream with 60 fps 720p@60@3k bitrate and lanczos filter

as a non partnered its actually recommended lately to not even go over 2500-3000 bitrate since you cut out a lot viewer not being able to sustain such a connection to the twitch severs and if you actually try streaming wow 1080p@60 with anything around 3k bitrate you are going to have some real quality drops as soon as theres a lot picture movement.


also phantomlord tried streaming wow with 1080p@45 and hes using a quite low bitrate i guess 2300 and also on medium preset and to be honest the game looked pretty shit as soon as he started moving the cam :/


so i'd really recommend 1080@30@3k bitrate or if you actually want to stream with 60 fps 720p@60@3k bitrate and lanczos filter
