Question / Help Get better performance while recording in OBS

Hi, my question* is simple. (Before you tell me, yes I've researched but I didn't find a solution)

I use FRAPS to record videos while playing, but the problem is that I have to sync my webcam and mic sound in post edit and it it's kind of tedious to do so.

So I started using OBS for local recording and so far has been good, but no so much.

Generally FRAPS for some reason doesn't take so much CPU performance and barely drops 5-10 frames while recording games.

But OBS takes waaaaay to much CPU usage and I even have to put it in Real Time priority to make it work, but that makes my game and other application decrease on its performance.

*Is there any way I can get OBS to have the same performance as FRAPS does? I don't have problem with hdd usage or file size because I have a dedicated drive.

I have my custom settings on x264 like this:

profile=baseline preset=ultrafast qp=25.

TL;DR : I want OBS to record uncompressed, very low CPU usage without having to encode much. (maybe deactivating preview while recording. how to?)

Not if you're using x264 to handle encoding with your CPU and ultrafast is too much. If Quick Sync or NVENC are available you could use those hardware encoding options instead. There's also a VCE build floating around the forums if you have an AMD GPU. Side note, while using x264 you should be using crf for rate control in local recordings, not qp.

Ok, thanks. I saw that qp line on a tutorial in the forums, Im going to try the other way. btw nvidia NVENC is any better? does it have the same or better quality and better performance?

Better performance? Very much so. Impact is practically negligible, IMO

Better Quality? Not as much as x264 at the same bitrate. I've heard QuickSync does a bit better in that regard
