Frustrated with Low-Color Video Output After Screen Recording Apple M2 Pro - Seeking Help!

Hello, fellow OBSProject users,

I hope you're all doing well. I've been trying to configure OBS for screen recording, but I've hit a roadblock with the video output quality. Despite experimenting with various settings, consulting the forum threads, and tweaking the video output format, I'm still stuck with low-color video recordings.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  1. Output Format: I initially used the default output format, but after noticing the color issues, I tried changing it to different formats like MP4, MKV, and FLV. Unfortunately, none of these adjustments made a significant difference.
  2. Video Settings: I went through various video settings, adjusting the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to improve the video quality. Despite my efforts, the recorded videos still appear washed out with dull colors.

I've spent considerable time searching the OBSProject forum for similar issues and tried out the solutions that worked for others, but none of them seem to have fixed my problem. I'm confident that I'm not the only one who has encountered this issue, so I'm reaching out to the community for help.

If any of you have faced a similar problem and managed to resolve it, or if you have any ideas on how to tackle this color issue, I'd be extremely grateful for your insights and suggestions. Maybe there's something I've overlooked, or perhaps a specific configuration that has worked for you.

4K always looks flat until after colour grading, your monitors are set to UHD/4K. Experiment with Rec. ITU-R BT.709 colour space.

After trying many configurations, I think the configuration that gives me the best result when recording at 1440p on a 4K monitor.

Settings > Output > Recording tab:
Output mode: Advanced
Type: Standard
Recording format: .mkv
Video encoder: Apple VT H264 hardware encoder
Audio encoder: CoreAudio AAC

Encoder Settings:
Rate Control: CRF
Quality: 99 (You can adjust the quality you want)
Key frame interval: 1s
Profile: High
Use B-frames: Marked

I guess I won't be able to get more than this quality due to technical difficulties or until something is integrated into OBS that is similar to Davinci resolve, where you select an option to use the Mac color profile.

I hope this configuration will help someone who has the same problem.
