FIRST time user of OBS, extremely pleased with the software. Learning curve was not that difficult for me, even though my ONLY previous experience was with Streamyard.

USE: Going to stream events at our local town hall, all volunteer.
Gear is what I am getting off Amazon, and presently own from music festival live video recording over the last ten years.

PROGRESS TO DATE:

Studio mode used, I find it very easy to use and love the preview capabilities.

After some basic learning, everything was set up perfectly.

5 scenes:

Room -source is CX 405 through generic USB converter . no audio passthrough.

Room with Me - laptop camera and mic active, laptop camera feed in PIP added to CX 405 through generic USB converter .

Room with Moderator - LifeCam HD500 feed in PIP mic active, added to CX 405 through generic USB converter .

Start Stream - .mov video locally stored. Title overlay with Text GDI+. Music from .wav file

Stop stream - .mov video locally stored. Title overlay with Text GDI+. Music from .wav file

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!
I could go back and forth switching scenes. Music behind start/stop and imagery worked great.

PIP of me and the moderator with the room background worked perfectly in our respective scenes.

When my laptop cam was in PIP, the laptop mic was active. Not active in other scenes. Desired operation.

When moderator was in PIP, LifeCam mic active. Desired operation.

LifeCam mic was always active as room mic, desired operation.

Start/stop scenes had only .wav file looped as background, no mics active. Desired operation.

Switching scenes seamless.

I was very confident at this point.

Set up the Youtube channel using Mange Broadcast, selected existing stream, it showed on my YouTube studio page.

Set stream to unlisted.

Figured it was TIME TO STREAM!!! :)

Selected 'Start Streaming' . BAM. POPUP.

Went ahead and checked for any and all driver issues. Installed every single suggested one from Windows update.

I am a BONEHEAD right now, and cant seem to upload that log. it is 3 events back.

But this was a repeating entry all the time it was running.

""
07:48:37.740: Video Capture Device 2: Error decoding video
07:48:37.772: warning: Found EOI before any SOF, ignoring
07:48:37.772: fatal: No JPEG data found in image
""

Went ahead and removed the HDMI-USB converter, as it was the majority of the error messages.

Removed all instances of 'Video Capture 2" from my scenes, and tried again. Same popup.

SHOULD be the event log from that last try: https://obsproject.com/logs/TXfKtqBaKMTGSB42

But if not, I uploaded current log again after trying to send the 8:49AM log.

Log from current event, ignore that last entries. Was me trying to post the desired log by erasing ones in the way. (i then restored them). I did mention BONEHEAD n00b, right? :)

HOPEFULLY enough info. :)

PLEASE HELP!! ..... and thank you in advance for assistance.

GOT IT.

Googled ""[qsv encoder: 'msdk_impl'] Specified object/item/sync point not found. (MFX_ERR_NOT_FOUND)""

Ai suggested:

Switch to Software Encoding (x264)
  • Open OBS Studio and go to Settings > Output.
  • Change the Encoder from QSV to x264 (software encoding). Your CPU will handle the encoding directly.
did so. SUCCESS. Was able to view stream on YouTube with unlisted link.
Now to sort out the ""
07:48:37.740: Video Capture Device 2: Error decoding video
07:48:37.772: warning: Found EOI before any SOF, ignoring
07:48:37.772: fatal: No JPEG data found in image
"

errors, may have been related. Going to re-install HDMI to USB converter, and see.

If you wanted to use QSV, you can try using an older version of OBS or swapping some files. Please see this thread for details.

You can also try updating your NVIDIA drivers to latest available studio version (581.57) and trying this plugin. I would message the developer to make sure that will work with your card/driver.

We need the log that contains those errors.

THANK YOU for the reply.

The logs were linked in the previous post, but errors seemed to be related to the QSV error, as they have not resurfaced after the fix.

Splendid idea running a previous version. I accepted an update recently. :/

Currently in the ""36 hr window"" to broadcast, so minimizing current research and going with what (SO FAR) is working.

But after....

Would you advise with my vintage hardware to uninstall my current, then download a previous version and disable updates?

If so, per my first post with computer specs in this thread, what version would you recommend? ( I will CERTAINLY check out those links you provided after the broadcast!!)

Current workaround:

I have been going to %appdata% and deleting the 'obs-studio' folder to do ""hard resets"" as I have been learning and screwing up settings. Each time I just go back into global settings and change QSV back to software h264.

Thanks again for the reply.

As an aside, any 'relation' to u/hobbz on reddit BGE forum? Similar tone in posting, and also extremely helpful.
