Question / Help Elgato HD - Blurry Picture?

Hello!

I've had my Elgato for a while now and have been live streaming on and off. I thought it's time that I finally start streaming properly and more often to pull some viewers in.

The problem i'm having is that my Elgato picture on OBS seems to be blurry and not as crisp as it is on the Game Capture software. I have changed my setting on OBS and my Elgato to 1080p and still everything seems washed out and blurry.
I am streaming my gameplay onto my Laptop which i know is not the best specs, yet i should be able to get a decent picture from it.
My internet connection is also more than fast enough to be able to stream at TwitchTV's max, 3500 upload.

Laptop Specs - Intel i5 4200M @ 2.50GHz, 16GB RAM

Below i've provided two screenshots to show the problem i am describing

Screenshot using OBS, notice the blurring

Screenshot using Game Capture HD software, Notice how much sharper the picture is

I have no trouble recording on these settings with the Game Capture HD software so surely i can stream those settings on OBS?

Thanks for any help!

Ah yes, this is partly a bug with OBS (emphasis on partly). The reason why it's blurry is because OBS can currently only capture the elgato in 720p. It cannot capture 1080p yet. We'll have it working properly in the rewrite though.

Is there any update on this?

I'm using an elgato with a dual PC setup. I'm having the same blurry look to my capture in OBS but it looks crisp and sharp in the game capture software.

The problem is still occuring for me. I'm streaming from my PC through my Elgato into my Laptop. I'm starting to think that maybe a Internal capture card in the same PC might be better.....

I found a got a better picture from Xsplit, but you have to pay for that. There must be SOMETHING to fix this problem, especially when the Elgato is one of the most popular capture cards.

As was stated - OBS currently only has 720p capability on the elgato. We will *hopefully* however get 1080p capability soon.

Not currently, you could capture the elgato window itself as an alternative.

Not currently, you could capture the elgato window itself as an alternative.

Except that doesn't work .....

OBS doesn't see the elgato picture for some reason.

Whether the game itself is output at 720p or not doesn't matter, that "lack of 1080p" is not all that is wrong, there is a permanent blur on the picture no matter the resolution of the game. It only appears on OBS, not on TV, not on elgato software (recording AND streaming...) and not on Xsplit. The OP's screenshots are not the result of the resolution change, it's actually the whole picture being altered, even a 720p game will be altered through OBS.

The original "capture device" quality of OBS with Elgato is a real shame compared to elgato software and Xsplit. The window capture is the only solution to remove that very obvious "blur".

Except this happens :

Which leaves us with nothing but blurry games or having to go back to Xplit. :/

Any fix / solution to this ?
