Question / Help "Could not initialize Direct X 11 or Intel(R) HD Graphics"

The error typically means that your GPU does not support DirectX10 and thus does not meet the requirements to run OBS. If you're using a laptop there's not really anything you can do about it other than get a better laptop.

I'm using a desktop and I am pretty dang sure it is a pretty amazing computer, too. If I found out my GPU could you tell me if it does not support DirectX10? I know I have Intel(R) HD Graphics. So if that works I don't see why OBS won't.

If your desktop computer only has an Intel HD Graphics chipset, it is most likely rather old, and perhaps not as amazing as you might think. The fact remains that Intel HD Graphics doesn't support the DirectX 10 features required by OBS, so you will not be able to run it without an actual graphics card.

Well it runs a lot of new games at pretty high settings so I just assumed. But I guess that depends on other things.
Well thank you. Uuh... Any suggestions on an actual graphics card? Does it matter if I get a crappy one as long as it's an actual card or will I need a pretty nice one if I want to have a good stream?

If you are playing games on that PC, I would suggest at least getting a decent graphics card. However, I wouldn't suggest asking for recommendations on what to buy on this forum. We have no idea what your computer looks like, what sort of hardware it can handle, etc. If you don't know much about buying computer parts, I suggest asking a friend to help you out.

Alright! Thank you very much paibox and Sapiens. I highly appreciate it. This was really bugging me and I guess I was so ignorant on the subject that my google searches were not helping.

Posting your systems detailed specs is almost always worth it. The more accurate/detailed the better. The more information you give people to work with, the faster and more accurate/correct answer you're likely to get. It's entirely possible your problem is fixable, but with the vague information you've given so far, we can only guess at answers. So yeah... posting what GPU you have (or full MSINFO32 or Speccy screenshot) would be much better.

Error: Could not initialize DirectX 10 on Intel(R) HD Graphics. This error can happen for one of the following reasons:

1.) Your GPU is not supported (DirectX 10 is required - note that many integrated laptop GPUs do not support DX10)
2.) You're running Windows Vista without the "Platform Update"
3.) Your video card drivers are out of date

If you are using a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus or AMD Switchable Graphics, make sure OBS is set to run on the high performance GPU in your driver settings.

Yep, you only have Intel HD Graphics, and not a fully DirectX 10 compatible GPU. You will need to buy a GPU that is DirectX 10 compatible. nVidia 400-series and higher cards should work, as long as the nodel number doesn't end in -10, -20, -30, or -40.
